Hi everyone!

I wanted to start a thread like that on Christmas already but didn't get it done.

I never used that litte "Can buy me love" button although I'm a user and fan of the Beatles Bible for some time now, and I feel the time has come.

Joe spends SOOO much time AND money on making this site a very special and professional looking place for the fans of a very special band.

I've never seen any "amateur" Beatles site that good looking with such an amount of great information.

As we know Joe is going through some tough time right now, working on keeping things going with the new server.

Let's cheer him up and support him in his work – which is still just a hobby for him!

I just donated and hope some others will scroll down and follow the example.

I also hope Joe is ok with this…

So, thanks man, and keep up the good work!

I concur…

I'll be doing this when I have a moment to set a PayPal and grab my wallet. Which my wife has for some reason. Thanks for this amazing site Joe.

Paulsbass – lovely idea. I'd follow your idea, but I'm currently saving every dime I have for a trip, so I have an idea. I'll add a link to the corresponding BB page on every single Wikipedia Beatles song/album entry. As Joe said, traffic is money.

That's an idea! We all "cheat" on Joe at other sites from time to time. You know… Commenting on articles and such. Sign everything you post with " learn more at Beatles Bible" with a URL.

Fantastic idea Paulsbass!! I'll promote the site in my facebook page, I'll try to donate some money *and* I need to buy books in Amazon so I'll do it throught this site. And those books are quite expensive so I'm sure that will help Joe.

And I'm getting a t-shirt for Paul's concert and I'll have in the back http://www.beatlesbible.com to promote the site. With the whole Azteca stadium full I'm sure more than one will see it and visit the site!!

I dont have much money but will ensure i use the amazon link here whenever i am purchasing anything on there. Also how do the links work, do you have to buy something for joe to get a small amount or does it have to be a purchase? I mean if i click on the itunes button does Joe get any cut or do i have to actually spend. I presume its spend as otherwise i could simply click it 40 times.

I dont even know what paypal is, never used it.

I don't know about the iTunes links, but do know that if you link to Amazon from this site, Joe does get a small percentage of any purchases you make. No matter what I buy on Amazon, I go to this site first and link to it that way. I've found that if you go to the "Albums" section of this site and click on any Album link, there will be a link to Amazon on that page.

I usually remind Forum members of this on a regular basis, so it warms my heart that others are doing this as well. Of course, if one wanted to make a straight donation by using the "Donate" button at the bottom of any page on this site, I don't think Joe would mind.

Nice work, paulsbass! mal-evans

Oh wow, you're all so kind. Thanks very much.

First of all, even though there's a donate button, this site will always be free to use. I treat it as a creative outlet, to give me something to do. If I don't get to write for a few days I get grumpy, so it's Beatle therapy for me.

I do get a bit of money each month from advertising. It's approximately 1/10th of my regular salary, so not nearly enough to retire on and go and live on a beach somewhere, and if it was my full-time job the hourly rate would be pitiful. But in terms of server costs it more than pays for itself. Any spare cash generally goes on Beatles books, though I do have a fund to buy a set of autographs one day.

Amazon/iTunes: if you click on a link and go to those sites, whatever you spend I get a cut from. I think the Amazon cookie lasts for 24 hours; not sure about iTunes. If no money gets spent I don't get paid, but that's OK. Incidentally, iTunes makes me just a few dollars each year, while I get a couple of hundred dollars a year from Amazon. Google's ads are far more lucrative.

Google ads! I realise people here want to show their appreciation, but please only ever click on an advert if you're interested in what it offers. Don't click on anything and everything just to make me some cash – Google has strict rules against it.

Wikipedia: I can't stop anyone linking to this site (nor would I want to), but please don't be too spammy. Put references in only when they're warranted. And do follow Wikipedia's convention for citations, otherwise they'll get removed PDQ.

Spreading the word is always welcome. New people discover this site all the time, and in four years of doing this I still don't think I've had any negative feedback (apart from typos and factual corrections). The more people who talk about this, the better my Google ranking is, the more traffic I get, the more money I get. But, more importantly, I get to meet lovely Beatles fans from across the universe who really appreciate what I do. Sometimes the warm glow of a job well done is as satisfying as cold, hard cash. brian-epstein

On the subject of spreading the word, the very fact that people post on this forum help enormously. If people chat about topics it encourages others to join in, and adds to the bulk of Beatles knowledge. (That's why I occasionally change thread titles and urls, to make them easier for Google to find.) There's stuff that's been debated here that I couldn't ever find time to write about elsewhere, so thanks for joining in.

I've never really done any promotion of this site – when I set it up the thought was "build it and they will come". I do update Twitter and Facebook when I remember, but that's about it. And many of my friends and workmates don't even know I do it. If I tried a bit harder with advertising and promotion who knows what'd happen?

While I'm here, future plans involve a Beatles book. Probably a self-published ebook and print-on-demand title, though I'll keep the subject to myself for now. I'll sell it through the site and on Amazon which should be good promotion. Might have to give my full name away too…

Oh, regarding that last comment. I have to research and write the thing first. Please don't expect anything in the short term. At the moment I'm at the gathering-info stage, and I've no idea when I'll get time to write it all. Nice to have long-term plans though.

Wow, love the t-shirt idea! I already use the Amazon link, and when I next get a bit of money, I'll make sure I donate something. apple01

Do the advertisers have to pay for every click as they do on Facebook?

You'd hate to have advertisers cough up money when in fact you have no interest in their product.

But I'm sure someone's monitoring the clicks on the ads, so all things being equal it's not a bad thing to check out the advertisers' products.

There's hardly anything you'd want that you can't get through BB; I even got two "Apples" loaded with all the Beatle songs + videos, and it worked out very well.

Yes, I get paid a few pennies for each click on a Google ad. It all mounts up. Ebay do something similar which I've been thinking of using, but I'm wary of making the site too ad-heavy.

Two USB apples? Very cool! Thanks for buying through the website.
