Have now discovered that i cant quote as the text box goes all doolally. And despite everything this place is still the best place to be online.
I just now quoted your last post so it seems to be OK.
I agree with your second statement. The content on this site is stellar – best I've seen. Also, despite the occasional technical difficulty, it's the people that make this Forum the best.
To the fountain of perpetual mirth, Let it roll for all its worth.

OnlineIts not that i cant quote – i can – the problem i have is that the box goes all doolally with large text boxes that i can move around but cant actually write anywhere. Basically i can quote but then not reply which kind of defeates the point.
But certainly the folks around here are fab. There is a nice cameradrie here which folks work to maintain.

OnlineYip FF makes it work perfectly. Not a huge fan of FF so be interesting to see if this site will push me over. Am also interested to know why IE fails to operate the site properly. Has Joe been offending Bill Gates?
Some things might not work in IE because it's a dog of a browser, and I rarely use it (and even more rarely test things with it). Sorry – I don't know why this might be happening. I'm at home at the moment but my PC at work has got IE on it – I'll take a look when I can.

OnlineOk. I noticed in the tools menu of the menu bar 'Compatibility View' was selected and having no idea why i unselected it and the text toolbars are back, the smileys are back, the post/reply box is full size again and it feels like coming home.
This appears to be something that IE9 does automatically if its been done once before.
So if this site isnt appearing properly check to see if Compatibility View' is selected and if so click on it to remove the tick sign, this place might return to how it should be.

Compatibility View
Sometimes the website you’re visiting doesn't look right. It shows up as a jumble of out-of-place menus, images, and text boxes. What's going on? One possible explanation: The site might have been designed for an earlier version of Internet Explorer. If Internet Explorer recognizes that the webpage isn't compatible, you'll see the Compatibility View button on the Address bar. Try clicking it.
The Compatibility View button
In Compatibility View, websites will be displayed as if you were viewing them in a previous version of Internet Explorer, which will often correct display problems. You don’t need to click the button for a site after you’ve done it once—the next time you visit the site, Internet Explorer 9 will automatically show it in Compatibility View. (If you ever want to go back to browsing with Internet Explorer 9 on that site, just click the Compatibility View button again

OnlineIn IE and FF the weblink box appears as just a white box for me. Also no smileys are working and the smileys, options and "This topic has subscriptions" box beneath the post/reply section seem to be wrongly alligned. And there are no boxes displayed to click to either unsubscribe or watch this top.
Yeah, I thought the alignment might be an issue. Simple Press (forum devs), in their wisdom, combined smileys, polls etc in an "integrated toolbar" in the latest release. If you choose not to have this it causes the issues you mention.
I've added the integrated toolbar. You'll notice you now have to open a box to choose smileys. This isn't ideal but it's the best I can do right now.
I don't know what you mean about the weblink box. The link option should be greyed out when writing a post, unless you've selected some text to add a link to. Is that what you mean?

OnlineI think it looks neater without all the smileys but it might be a pain for some folk to click a button to get them.
Allignments all back to normal.
Smileys still not working - all that happens is that the one you click on and all the ones following jolt to the right of the screen very quickly and back again..
After ive selected the text to add the hyperlink to and clicked the chain icon a blank box appears which is all white except for a grey top, no way of inserting the web address.
IE and FF have both issues updates over the last few days so i thought it was just one of the those things but since its in both.
OK, I didn't know that the smileys weren't working. Thanks for that. It might take me a day or to to look into but I'll fix it when I can.
I didn't know what you meant earlier about the hyperlinks. Now I see it's the popup box. Looks like there's some JavaScript missing (which might be the problem with the smileys too). Again, I've no idea why this is happening but leave it with me.
For info, Simple Press make nice forums, but they charge $99 a year for support which seems excessive (though understandable – they put a lot of work in) – particularly when most of the time things work fine. It's galling to have to pay just for one or two errors now and then. The alternatives are trying to fix things myself, or looking into migrating everything over to another forum. The latter would be a massive pain so I'll stick with the DIY approach for now.
OK, smileys appear to be working now (I can't guarantee they won't break again). Can you give them a go too?
There was an update to the toolbar which may or may not have fixed things.
No idea about the Add Link window. It happens for all the popup windows in the toolbar, eg Add Custom Character. I suspect it's JavaScript but that's not a language I can speak.

Smileys are working. Thank you.
I dont think paying $99 for support is worthwhile when things rarely go wrong to such a degree that it becomes cost effective.
I tend to agree. They do two months for $39 but it's still probably not worthwhile, unless I can't fix this thing myself. I used to use their support forum when it was free and I know the sort of thing they'd advise (switch to the default WordPress theme, if it works then it's something in this custom theme etc). I'll try a few things but maybe not straight away.
$99 isn't really too bad though – I could look on it as a running cost for the forum. Over a year it's not a lot – this site makes way more than that, I'm just a mean old man!
OK, should be fixed now. It was a plugin conflict – it happens sometimes, that two bits of code don't work nicely together. I won't bore you with the details.
I've tested it in Chrome and FF – I can't be bothered to fire up IE now, but if you spot any further problems let me know.

OfflineA few problems… Smileys don't appear for me, the drop-down arrow on the recently updated topics thing doesn't appear for me (still works though), "X" to close out of a picture/profile/etc. doesn't appear (still works though), search/vote buttons don't appear (doesn't work). Is there something wrong with my computer/browser? Sorry if this isn't the right place to post.
