Sorry if your avatar has disappeared. I was doing some fine-tuning on the server to remove some old database entries that were no longer valid, and I think some other stuff disappeared. Really sorry. 
The site was offline for a day over the weekend, but I didn't realise at the time. Around 8am UK time each day there's a surge in server queries which occasionally knocks the site offline. I'm trying to work out what's causing the spike, hence the tinkering.

No, it seems to be OK. They were definitely missing for a short while earlier today but it seems to have righted itself. MySQL databases can be funny things. Who understands them? Not me.

I'm going to disable something each day to try to get to the bottom of this weird 8am spike. It shouldn't affect the forum but if I can't find anything else wrong it might have to go offline for a day/night (depending on where you are). I'll give a warning in advance.

That was a server crash, yes. The unavailability wasn't intentional.
Work is ongoing. I'm having to recode a lot of the site, which is something I'd rather not have done, but it should make it leaner. If I can isolate which plugin is causing the surge it'll be a relief, but the problem might lie elsewhere. It's all a bit of a mystery right now but very frustrating.

OK, sorry again for the downtime (if you noticed). It happened overnight here so I didn't realise until this morning.
I've increased the memory limit on the server and have disabled some parts of the site (gallery images and the map among them). I'll give it a day or two and see if it makes a difference. If it doesn't I'll consider upgrading the hosting plan to give the server a bit more power. Please bear with me.

I wanted to go to http://www.beatlesbible.com and instead of opening the main page, it's asking me to save a file (it seems it's a zip file). I tried in Explorer and Firefox and it's the same, and I asked a friend to do it and he got the same error. 
I can access the forum though and some other pages like the songs section. The only problem is the main page.

Yeah, that happens to me too. You can get around it by just typing http://www.beatlesbible.com/forum but of course, if you're reading this, you've already figured that out.

I've heard of that happening on other sites, but never here. I've disabled a few site features which may have caused it – please let me know if it happens again.

Don't worry, I'm breaking and fixing code to make the whole site leaner. If you see an error like that it's probably because I've just tried something new.

Hello, Joe, it's getting better… today I can access the forum from the main page.. the "open or save file" window does not appear anymore…
And it seems that I have the "post reply" button in every page! Good!
