OfflineI get that too Walrus. Its a nice touch, like a cheery hello.
Joe, the cache thing seems to have be fixed now as when the 1 unread post is clicked on the box that appears is automatically up to date, whereas it used to bring up the previous amount. Whatever has been done has worked so thank you.![]()

OfflineWas just wondering whether the captcha will be gone permanently. Not that it really matters, if anything it takes 2 seconds less to post something, but I was just curious.
I'm definitely used to all the changes already, and the site just looks that little bit cleaner. Thank you, Joe! ![]()

OfflineI have noticed a problem. I always use the menu at the top to check unread topics. Sometimes, some unread threads appear as "read" before I actually do it, and I get the "O topics with new posts".
Is this happening to everybody or just me?

Lately, when I first visit the site, I get "hello The Walrus, please log in to post" in the profile bar. If it knows who I am, why does it want me to log in?
I don't know – that's the way the forum software was coded. I think it's a cookie that remembers you, but you still need to log in. Sorry, that's the best explanation I can offer!

I think the captcha will be gone permanently, as there's some kind of conflict. Other forum owners which use Simple Press (this forum software) have also encountered issues with it. There's a workaround, but I haven't had time to implement it, and I don't think we really need a captcha each time anyway.

I haven't actually done anything. It's still caching for me. Mith – I think this is related to the issue you mention too. I've raised it with the forum developers but they haven't been able to replicate it. If others report it (the new version of Simple Press came out of beta today) then hopefully a fix will arise. In the meantime, sorry.

OfflineI still have to refresh the page to update the number of new posts but everything else seems to be working fine, which was something that occured with the old layout. Strange how its stopped doing it for 1 but not for others. Windows released a load of software updates recently, maybe thats whats fixed it. I have no idea.

OfflineJoe, I've noticed that the exact dates and times of peoples' comments (on the various pages outside the forum) have been replaced by the more inexact "_ days/months/years ago" designations. This is dismaying – Is this permanent?
If so, I think it's a regrettable change, personally. But I guess you know best, or maybe it's a Simple: Press issue or something…
That's to do with Livefyre, a plugin I'm using to manage the comments on articles (comments can update in real time without needing approval). It's not being syncing very well with my server so I'm planning to ditch it and move to Disqus, a similar product, instead. They save me from manually managing comments, approving, marking as spam etc (and I get a lot of spam comments).
However, it looks like Disqus also does the "two days ago" thing, rather than a proper datestamp. I don't think there's a way of changing this, so it's probably a permanent change. Sorry about that. Two steps forward, one step back.

OfflineWell I switched from Livefyre to Disqus (Livefyre didn't allow html in comments so I couldn't embed links, fail) and there's a setting to have relative or absolute dates. I switched to absolute so it should now show dates and times that comments are left. Glad to be of service, sir!
