Offline Also, I’m not sure if this is true of every section (I assume it is), but in “All Together Now ,” it now says “Fab Forum” at the top of the page instead of “All Together Now | Fab Forum” like it used to.

Offline Did subscriptions go away? I haven’t been on the forum in a while, and I just realized it’s because I haven’t been getting any email notifications about topics I subscribed to, which used to be my main motivation/reminder to check in. Just logged in tonight to see if somehow I got unsubscribed, and I don’t even see an option to manage my subscriptions anymore.

There was some bug not too long ago where many users were being told that they had tons of subscriptions to topics that they had never actually subscribed to. Maybe it has something or other to do with that. That’s my guess, but I’m not site staff, so I wouldn’t know for sure.

Offline Subscriptions and watches went super weird @PeterWeatherby and the ones folk had supposedly signed up to weren’t and it kept changing randomly and frequently. @Joe tried to fix it but nothing worked in doing so so it was felt better to take it off than having a system that was seriously wonky. There is a whole discussion on it starting here.

Offline @Joe, that may be the reason the number of visitors to the site has fallen. (Not that I want to give you an out for not writing more content or anything like that. Begins a chant that spreads through the crowd – WE WANT MORE. WE WANT MORE. WE WANT MORE.)
Perhaps we should send PMs to folks who were regulars but haven’t logged in for a while. Maybe they will see the email telling them they have a PM and log in and get active again. It is worth a shot.

I don’t think it’s the main reason for the decline in visitors, though it would certainly have had an effect. The main reason is Google de-indexed about a third of my pages, mainly because of repetition (the Cavern/Hamburg live dates contain a lot of copy-and-pasted info), similar page titles etc. There were also some other SEO things to do with page titles/meta descriptions which I spent a bit of time addressing yesterday.
Occasionally Google changes its algorithm which means some sites lose out, some do better. I didn’t take a big hit, just down a couple of thousand page impressions a day. I’ll get it back.
I would like to get the notifications working again though. The trouble was I had to delete everyone’s existing ones, so they’d be starting from scratch. We’ll just have to live with that. Sorry @PeterWeatherby.

Offline I just re-enabled subs and watches. Could someone click on their profile and the Watches tab? If you see a couple of entries relating to the Beatles and drugs, they’re my watches and the system is still broken. Offline @Starr Shine? Thanks. I’ll leave them working and hopefully it’ll be OK from now. If anyone spots anything odd please report it in the Weird Things thread.
Apologies again for all those who lost their settings. I think it was caused by a server reboot (necessary after a whole heap of problems), but while troubleshooting it I deleted everyone’s subs and watches to start afresh (which didn’t fix it). I assume now that if I’d waited a little longer it might have put itself right, but I had no way of knowing that at the time. Oh well, you live and learn.

I was playing around with the titles as part of an SEO cleanup. It’s a result of changes made to the non-forum part of the site. I needed those pages to have better titles, and unfortunately couldn’t get the forum titles to behave differently. I might look into it again at some point, because the titles can look quite long, particularly on mobiles.
