Hi all,

First, let me say how exciting it is to have our Forum membership growing everyday. Welcome to all of those I have not had a chance to correspond with.

Second, while I encourage you to post your thoughts as much as possible, I will ask for your help in keeping the amount of duplicate threads to a minimum.

If you wish to post about a specific song or album, please take a moment or two to search out an existing thread in which to post your thoughts. This way we don’t end up with multiple threads that address the same topic.

What works best for me is the ‘Advanced Search’ option. This is located on the left side of any Forum page underneath the field where you would enter your search criteria.

  1. Type in the criteria surrounded by an asterisk (*) on each side. For example *yesterday*
  2. Click on ‘Advanced Search’
  3. Click on the button for ‘Topic titles only’
  4. Click on the ‘Search’ button

When you do this, you will get a list of all topics that contain the word ‘yesterday’. The example I gave returned 6 different threads. If you don’t see a thread that your thought would pertain to, feel free to start a new one.

Thanks to everyone for your cooperation.

PS – I did a search for the words *New Topics* before posting this one – just in case you were wondering.a-hard-days-night-george-10

Yeah, thanks Zig – don’t know that I’ve ever noticed that advanced search option before! Probably wasted many minutes (hours?) of my life here running inefficient searches as a result.

Paul: Yeah well… first of all, we’re bringing out a ‘Stamp Out Detroit’ campaign.

I’ll keep that in mind Zig.  It’s good because it refocuses my attention on older topics.  I just found one in fact from 5 months ago, where I think Joe posted a YouTube link to “Brian Epstein blues” — however, the link no longer works.

Joe, do you have a new link?

I did an Advanced search on it just in case, for all forums —

Search results for ‘brian epstein blues’ (1)

No idea about the Epstein song. I could look on YouTube for another source, but so could you!

After wrangling with this idea in another thread (said idea was prompted by a comment by our esteemed administrator), I now think that using the search box on the Beatles Bible homepage works better than the search box/function that is a part of the forum. Using the homepage search box will take you to the exact page in a thread where your search terms appear instead of just sending you to p. 1 of the thread. Also, the results list provide the little summary of the page you are linking to, just like you see in Google (very helpful)

If anyone has a different experience, please let me know. I adore talking about search tips. Guess it’s the librarian in me.

The forum reached a stage where, despite it being a forum to discuss The Beatles, the vast majority of discussion was about anything but The Beatles, @Neely. Often the forum could go weeks without there being any real discussion of them, and Joe felt it discouraged those who wanted to talk about them to look at a list of the most recent posts here and seeing The Beatles were not being talked about. He had created a forum for Beatles discussion and found it had morphed into a more generic social forum that can be found all over the interweb.

Efforts were made to refocus the forum onto its intended primary subject, such as making all forum games Beatles focused, but eventually felt he had no choice but to lock the All Together Now section of the forum to new threads, while also locking many threads in it, if it was to be a Beatles forum. There are still many threads there which allow for varied discussion, from the In My Life thread which allows people to talk about what’s going on with them, to the Incredibly Impossible to Derail thread where anything can be discussed, to threads for current affairs (I Read the News Today) and music (What Are You Listening to…).

There are always threads to say whatever you want, even if sometimes you need to find a fit for what you want to say rather than creating a specific thread for it.

And never worry about posting too much. Posting is never discouraged, and new voices are always welcome. They help reinvigorate and drive the conversation. I’m always happy to see new people join us, and sad that so many of those who join the forum never make a post (though some, of course, are bots or spammers who are screened out by the mods before they can start filling the forum with unwanted garbage).

Like @Ron Nasty said, you don’t need to apologise for posting on this forum too much. We love having you and all the other newbies on here. It’s always great that someone your age is interested in and listening to the band.

I remember being in University ten years ago or more now, and getting in to The Beatles big time. People there were talking about current day music, and I’d say how I could recognise any Beatles song from one second samples. The same is true today. I’d listen to them as soon as classes were finished, and have the melodies in my mind during the day.
