I like the "Inner Light" cover. Who's the girl playing the sitar? She is amazing!
Anoushka Shankar.

OfflineThanks!
I wonder if it's typical of Indian music for songs to be 20 minutes long. Seriously. It takes dedication to play for as long as these guys are playing.

OfflineYeah. I enjoy Indian stuff as "background music." (I listen while I post.) Right now there's a pretty cool orchestral piece going on.

OfflineIndian music is very serious music. It really moves your heart and is difficult to play. I received a Sitar for a Christmas present last year and it is an amazing instrument. It takes a lot of patients to tune and play buy very gratifying. I can see why George loved the instrument so much. It puts on another level musically.

OfflineI couldn't watch it. I wanted, but it was really hard. I don't know why. I want to celebrate his birthday, but I just feel sad, and I know I shouldn't. I think I'll have to do it when I'm in a more cheerful mood.

OfflineI've watched up until I Want To Tell You and I'm surprised that I actually listened to the whole Indian section. It was a lot more entertaining than I thought it would be and also impressive that they can do that for 20 minutes, and from what I can tell the non-western-orchestral members memorized their parts.

I'm watching this now. I've had this saved on my DVR since 9/9/09.

That was the first time I watched it. I was no nieve when it came to Beatle/solo music back then. I've come along way in less than 2 years. I just remember looking at Dhani and being like "George is right there. OMG this kid is George!"
Lets just say my love for the Harrisons started right about then.

OfflineDon't watch this on youtube, get the DVD, it's sooooooo worth it! The camera work is great, and the lightning is amazing, all this blue and orange and purple in the beautiful Albert Hall – a feast for the eyes!
But it is not just the best-filmed tribute concert ever, it's also the best musically (imo).
I mean most of these guys, esp. Clapton, have played on practically ANY tribute or royalty concert in the last 40 years, starting with Bangla Desh.
But I've NEVER seen a "tribute" band playing so tight! That is even more impressive considering the pure SIZE of the band! Like Dhani said: He got at some point totally "lost" on stage because there were about eight guitarists and three bass players, so he tried to "focus" on the drumset – but there were four of them!! Amazing job by musical director EC and very well played, guys! Joe Brown said: "These guys know what to play and what not!" (he put it better than that), and it really shows how professional AND passionate they all are.
And all the singers performed very well!
Favourite performances for me where "All things must pass" by Paul, his "Something" with EC (the moment where the band sets in is INCREDIBLE!), Ringo's "Honey don't" and – "Sit on my face" by Monty Python!
The Indian section was also really good. Ahoushka Shankar is sooo much more beautiful and talented than Norah Jones (her sister), and she did a great job writing and directing this complex piece of music, combining western and eastern musicians just like George did. EC's guitar solo brings tears to her eyes, and it's nice to se how humble he is and recognizes all the fantastic musicians.
As for Dhani, check out what Paul says before Joe Brown's final performance! (I won't give it away, it's really a nice and fitting last word).
All in all definitely the best concert DVD I own and a TOTAL must have for ANY Beatle- and George-fan.

OfflineWell.. Paulsbass said it all..
I watched the complete concert yesterday evening after watching the news about Libya and the rest of the Middle East almost all day, and listening to the prayer, Arpan and George's music was the best way to make me feel at peace.
It's strange how music can affect us in the most amazing of ways.
Not only does Dhani look A LOT like his dad, but he also plays the guitar in almost the same way, how he moves his legs and how he looks so focused.. Beautiful Boy.
I agree with Mr. Sun King. Tom Betty's performance was, to me at least, weird. It's the first time I see him – is he always like this?
I never liked Ringo's "Honey Don't" before, but his performance in this concert is beauutiful..
Happy Birthday Georgie
