Here are some instructions for adding an image to a forum post.

When writing a post you'll see a small icon of a tree. Click this and a popup box will appear with some options.

There are two ways you can then add a picture:

  1. Point to one hosted on another website. To do this (depending on your browser) go to the picture in question, right click and choose properties, then copy the location of the picture (it will probably begin with http and end with .gif or .jpg, but shouldn't be .html). Add this link to the "Image URL" field in the popup box. This is probably the easiest way to do it.
  2. Upload it to this site. Again, click on the tree icon, then on the little image of a camera on the right-hand side. You should then be able to browse to pics on your computer and upload them to the site, and they'll then appear in your forum messages.

Please note that inappropriate images will be deleted, and anyone abusing the facility may have their account terminated and/or IP blacklisted. Copyrighted material may also be removed if a complaint is received.

Test with image on the web:

Test with image upload:

The images are resized automatically, and users can click to see the enlarged versions.

For those who know html, there's an option to use <img src> codes instead of using the web interface. Instead of the tree icon click on the html button and you can add code directly. And if that makes no sense to you, don't worry about it!

Just to let you know, I'm disabling the image upload. I became nervous about alllowing people to upload whatever they wanted to my server (which I'd be responsible for). I didn't really fancy the prospect of police breaking down my door if the facility became abused.

Thankfully everyone's been responsible so far, and I'll keep all previously-uploaded images on the server. I was more worried that, as the forum becomes more popular and new users register, it would become harder to moderate everything that gets uploaded.

If you want to publish an image that's not currently online, please use a photo-sharing site such as Flickr or Photobucket.

Photobucket should be able to host them: http://photobucket.com/images/…..ted%20gif/

Sorry for the inconvenience – I hope you understand my reasons.

Totally. It only take one idiot to ruin it for all.

OK so no preview with it then. It's a couple more steps than the old way. I'll survive somehow. a-hard-days-night-george-10

Shannon – you won't be able to browse photos on your hard drive, because I don't allow people to upload them to my server. You have to have the pics online somewhere, then paste the url (http://whatever.jpg) into the image field when writing a message.
