Here's another answer for you. I don't intend to encourage giving up, but in case you have no idea, or you're bored and you want to know the answer and move on with your life, I'll post it here.

A traveller comes to a fork in the road which leads to two villages. In one village the people always tell lies, and in the other village the people always tell the truth. The traveller needs to conduct business in the village where everyone tells the truth. A man from one of the villages is standing in the middle of the fork, but there is no indication of which village he is from. The traveller approaches the man and asks him one question. From the villager's answer, he knows which road to follow. What did the traveller ask?

He asked, "Which village is yours?" If the villager lied, he'd point to the truthful village because it wouldn't be his village. If the villager told the truth, he'd still point to the truthful village because it would be his village.

I'm going to guess and say he asked they guy what village he lived in.

But how is a cloud followed by darkness, and what does it mean by "lower light I never see"?

I think it means that because we most closely associate clouds with the daytime, darkness follows, as in, night. And ''lower light I never see'' because it's never lighter than it is in the daytime. That's how I interpreted it, anyway.

 Um… I don't think so… but now I'm confused, and it's my own riddle! *facepalm*

Oh, wait- I think I see the problem! You went from "only child" to "uncle," skipping "daughter."

Oh, great- rereading my riddle, I think there's a flaw… Well, let's just see what happens.
