According to this threads comments the picture is originally from the Beatles Monthly magazine and is the Paperback Writer session. Also has a slighty wider version of the picture.

And another version from a different site which is bigger at the bottom and top. Wonder if its complete anywhere?

Well, the picture is tagged 'beatlesrain.jpg', so someone seems to believe that it's from the "Rain" sessions. Given Ringo & Paul's hair (which both look similar to their look in the "Rain" video), it seems plausible.

I've been trying to help you by doing some research, but I got nowhere. My best guess would be that they're recording an early take of Paperback Writer. Paul wanted a louder, heavier bass sound, so he began to teach George how to play the song. Then, Geoff Emerick decided to use a loudspeaker to record Paul's Rickenbacker bass instead of a microphone.

Here's a picture from the Revolver sessions, with odd instrumentation. Paul is on his Epiphone Casino, George on a Burns Nu-Sonic bass, and John on his Gretsch Nashville. Which song are they recording?

Contenders:

Paperback Writer - The way I've heard it, Paul and John play the guitars, while George laid down a "guide" bass track that Macca later dubbed over. However, listening to Take 1, one can hear two guitars and no bass (This site claims that Paul ...
