Hey guys,

I’m not sure if this particular photo has already been discussed on this forum, but I stumbled across it the other day. It’s a picture of Tony Sheridan and Stuart Sutcliffe, and a pretty odd one at that.

Both these musicians of course played essential parts in the early stages of The Beatles career in Hamburg, and after Tony Sheridans recent death this picture has becomes that bit more significant in my opinion.

Just a few questions:

Does anyone know the origins of this photo? e.g. who took it, where.

Are there any other photos of Sutcliffe and Sheridan?

Is this actually the only picture of Sutcliffe in colour? (this is mentioned around the internet)

Can anyone tell whats going on between Sheridans legs?

Does anyone know the origins of this photo? e.g. who took it, where. My first thought went to Astrid, but I think she only did B&W. Could it be Jurgen Vollmer’s photo?

Are there any other photos of Sutcliffe and Sheridan? This is the only one I’ve ever seen.

Can anyone tell whats going on between Sheridans legs? A loaded question, that! To me, it looks as though he is on some type of bicycle – his right foot appears to be on a pedal.

My question is, is that really Stu? It looks like him and it doesn’t. I know The Beatles were into those very pointed shoes back then, so it could be…or not.

Don’t know if this helps in any way, but another photo from this session was used as the cover to Sheridan’s debut album:

I personally think that is Stu in the other picture. Is there a date for this photo session?

I believe it is Stu as I saw it in Pauline Sutcliffe’s biography of his life. From this website, it tells us it’s probably from 1962, and Astrid was the photographer.

I’m not quite sure what Sheridan is doing with ballons but I agree with Zig that it might be a bicycle, another thing that comes to mind is a seesaw but I don’t know why he’d be on one of them.

I also haven’t seen any other photos of Stu and Sheridan together.

Thanks for the link ASJr. I had been on that site before and forgot about it. It was nice seeing those pics again. I love Astrid’s photography – especially the “selfies” with Stu. This will always be my favorite.
