(Went and googled the quote ‘sow your wild oats’ for its origins and right at the top of the first page i opened is a link to ‘Paul McCartney interviews’.)

That’s a lot of oats sown. Quite a farmer he was.

Meet the Beatles for Real posted three fan pics of John and Ringo during their trip to Greece. She has it as July ’69, but I think that’s a typo (Beatles Bible has it as ’67).

Pic of John on the steps at Kenwood, from Meet the Beatles for Real. It’s odd to see John in a regular shirt as opposed to something psychadelic that year. But he’s got that talisman necklace.

Tomorrow (or today in other time zones) is the anniversary of the Sgt. Pepper ‘s launch party at Brian’s home. A bunch of photos here. And articles from that day. I didn’t know George left early, which would explain why I don’t see any solo photos of him from the event.

Never realised John was wearing a sporran. From one of the articles Parlance posted a link to above

Apart from his green frilly shirt John was wearing maroon trousers and round his waist was a sporran.

Why the sporran, I enquired. “A relative in Edinburgh gave it to Cynthia as a present and as there are no pockets in these trousers it comes in handy for holding my cigarettes and front door keys.”

The official George Harrison Facebook page posted this ten hours ago.  This is the caption:

On this day in 1967 George, Paul, Jane Asher and Pattie Boyd watchedThe Jimi Hendrix Experience headline a bill at the London’s Saville Theatre.

Hendrix opened his set with a version of the title track from the Sgt. Pepper ’s Lonely Hearts Club Band album, which had been released just three days before!

I'm Necko.  I'm like Ringo except I wear necklaces.

I'm also ewe2 on weekends.

Funny, that was the very show Peter Asher talked about at the concert Saturday.

That hair, rawr.

The comments at the Beatles Photo Blog on the story behind the photo are interesting. I didn’t know about this particular meeting with Maharishi.

Just did a bit of deeper research, and found this bit at Wikipedia:

Although there was talk of making a film about the Maharishi in co-operation with Apple Films,[225] it was discovered that the Maharishi was independently negotiating with ABC Television in the US, to create a TV special featuring the band.[49] Two visits by business manager Peter Brown to the Maharishi—who was lecturing in Malmö, Sweden—and one by Harrison and McCartney, failed to stop him proclaiming that he could deliver the band for a TV show.[225]

And then I found this comment at one of @Joe’s pages:

Joe, if you want to view more pictures of the Beatles, visit “Bilder i Syd”, a Swedish website, and search for Beatles. At the bottom of the first page click on –sista– to get to the second page. These photos include ones of Paul and George visiting Malmo in October 1967.

And lo and behold, there are pics of George and annoyed but still hot Paul from ’67 there, including this one from that same walk pictured above.

Whee! Research is fun.

Thanks for the pics @parlance, never seen them before.

If i remember correctly Jonathan Gould’s book mentions the Maharishi using the Beatles to promote himself in mid to late 1967 and the Beatles not being happy about it, i dont recall any talk of Sweden tho. Always great to learn.

Edit: A quick google search brings up a site that has a load more from Sweden in October 1967 (there are also pics from 1964) (sadly they have watermarks thru them).

Don’t you just love 1967?  What a great time to be alive. heartapple01

I say in speeches that a plausible mission of artists is to make people appreciate being alive at least a little bit. I am then asked if I know of any artists who pulled that off. I reply, 'The Beatles did'.
