This was the first Beatles film I ever saw. That coupled with the fact that I watched this at about 3 a.m. made it a strangely hysterical experience for me.

Anyways, I found when the entire film is viewed as a joke the Beatles are pulling on the world (and the world just doesn't quite get it), it's actually enjoyable. Of course, the musical bits are much better than the rest- but overall a much better time than that homework assignment I was supposed to be doing.

Because the wind is high, it blows my mind.

My parents both saw it when it came out. My dad says he took his first girlfriend, which makes me wonder…who has a girlfriend at age 10, and why would you take a girl to MMT? Not at ALL romantic! My mom's older brother took her when she was 5, and apparently she had nightmares about “some fat lady eating spaghetti” for a month. Apparently Aunt Jessie scares small childrena-hard-days-night-ringo-12

"What happens to them?" insisted Milo.

"Oddly enough, they often grow ten times the size of everyone else," said Alec thoughtfully, "and I’ve heard that they walk among the stars."

Not sure what your parents mean by “taking/being taken by” someone to see MMT – did it ever play in theatres at all after its televised debut?

GEORGE: In fact, The Detroit Sound. JOHN: In fact, yes. GEORGE: In fact, yeah. Tamla-Motown artists are our favorites. The Miracles. JOHN: We like Marvin Gaye. GEORGE: The Impressions PAUL & GEORGE: Mary Wells. GEORGE: The Exciters. RINGO: Chuck Jackson. JOHN: To name but eighty.

Yeah, I was a bit confused by that too. They might have meant seeing it with someone, at home or something, particularly as my mom was quite little at the time and apparently traumatized by the experience.

As a side note, it’s impossible to listen to 60’s music without my dad telling me random stories about his various childhood love interests. Apparently, he danced to Honky Tonk Woman with a girl named Bootie Pottsa-hard-days-night-ringo-9and Dear Prudence will forever remind him of “a ravishingly beautiful blonde girl in a green one piece swimsuit at the beach that I had a crush on the summer i was thirteen”a-hard-days-night-john-7 My dad is pretty crazy…

Well it looks like this is coming to dvd and blu-ray on 9th October (John’s birthday). There may a directors commentary by the one and only Paul amongst other special features on a special edition package plus a new documentary called Magical Mystery Tour Revisited is scheduled to be screened by the British Film Industry and the BBC in early October. Hopefully that will extend to the Glasgow Film Theatre who have previously shown A Hard Days Night and Living In The Material World as its a wonderful experience seeing them on the big screen (i saw Yellow Submarine in the cinema back in 1999).

Exciting stuff and it looks like Apple are going to be releasing a few things this year as we have already have the rereleased Yellow Submarine and itunes only Tomorrow Never Knows . Now all we need is Let It Be and i will shut up about that one – i will keep on saying it until then; its daft not having all the Beatles movies available to buy on dvd.

It’s daft not having all the Beatles stuff that EXISTS on some sort of DVD. Well, not everything…I’m thinking of a nice collection of all their promotional videos in one place, “Penny Lane ” and “Rain ” and “Something ” and all those.

Fab-u-lous news, mmm. Good, bad or ugly – I would love to own it. I feel the same way about Let It Be .

To the fountain of perpetual mirth, let it roll for all its worth. And all the children boogie.

Hot damn!

I know it’s such a black sheep, but I totally love MMT’s whole vibe.  I was going to plunk down cash and buy an original copy of the double 7″ vinyl on eBay, but now I guess I can just get the deluxe blu-ray set.

I can’t wait to see the outtakes, deleted scenes and such.  Anything unseen from that era is gold to me.

And I’m curious about the “new song edits”.  Sounds like they’re going to be presented a little more smoothly, like music videos between the film’s scenes.

Amazon has it listed at $66.49.  Not too cost-prohibitive, considering what you get with it.

It’s $90 on the official store, but that’s always overpriced.

I have no use for that box but the DVD itself has enough extras to get me intrigued. Seriously, though, I’m far more interested in the documentary and the behind-the-scenes stuff than in the original film.

And yeah, nice to see Apple opening the vaults!

Paul: Yeah well… first of all, we’re bringing out a ‘Stamp Out Detroit’ campaign.

Sounds and looks wonderful what with the outtakes and picture quality. About flippin’ time Apple released something properly.

The collectors box is incredibly tempting but i may settle for the standard dvd or wait till Christmas or have it as an early christmas present.

I’m torn on the Collectors’ Set. I’ve got the double EP already, and there’s no point having the DVD and Blu-ray discs (the box contains both). £60 for a film and 60-page book is quite steep, but I know I’ll probably buy it anyway.

I think I will just wait for vinyl remasters, but they will probably cost fortune.

The book is what interests me in the collectors set, like you Joe i have the original ep plus the ep when it came out on cd in the ep collection boxset. If someone wants to buy the deluxe and then keep a nice copy on the net which he keeps open for folks to view…
