Better copies can be *cough cough* found on the internet if you look hard enough ;-)

Watched this earlier today.

I can understand why Paul thinks he looks bad, but I thought it would be a lot worse than it actually is (or at least appears to me). He does come across as being quite commanding and a bit bossy, but if you have any idea about the Beatles and their split at all (which you probably do if you’re watching this in the first place), then I think you will understand why. Dunno why, after all this time, he’s still so hung up about it and dead set against its release.

The ending more than makes up for the rest of it anyway.

^^^The ending TOTALLY makes it worth it!!!^^^

I remember introducing it to Miss Best Friend, one minute she’s jumpy and dancing to it all insane-o, then the next minute, collapsed on the floor wailing “beatles is over”.

I think I love the film for many reasons.

Lumberjack Paul McCartney .

Little Heather.

And of course I literally have to leave the room because i keep making gaping “AWWWWWW” noises when I Me Mine is being played and John and Yoko are waltzing to it. Typical me. two-virgins

I think it needs more Ringo. I barely saw him!

Yeah. Another trip to Sardinia, perhaps?

Seriously though, he does look exhausted. They all do, actually.

You can tell by the way John’s not into it that he’s just so over the whole Beatles thing.

I thought Ringo looked bored senseless, fed up, and needed and wanted to be anywhere else. Didn’t look anywhere near as bored and fed-up anywhere else except the ’66 Budokan concerts.

I think all of them except Paul look like they are over the whole Beatle thing – which makes the rooftop show and their enthusiasm there even more telling – maybe Paul was right and a tour would have energized them.  The whole thing also makes Abbey Road even more amazing considering it all came after this.

I used to blame Paul for a large part of the breakup, nowadays it seems to me that he was only trying to keep them working, but maybe his way of going about it just didn’t work in the situation.

Still, we have a Rutles blu ray on the way so I’m still hoping to see Let it Be on disc within a year or so.

Bottom line: the group became too restrictive an outlet for 3 very talented, very diverse and very headstrong creative forces.  John’s and George’s shifting in personalities didn’t help, either (coincidentally, both also grew weary of the music industry during their solo years).  Then there was George’s increasing resentment over John and Paul still largely dismissing most of his songs, despite the fact that he had now nearly caught up with them.  Paul had good intentions in his ‘cheerleading,’ but he didn’t really go about it in the best way.

Also, I still can’t figure out why the group had to personally accommodate the film crew’s working hours instead of the other way around.  Union rules or what?  I’m sure this added to the tension and general lethargy as well.  Anyway, these are what seem to be the guys’ mindsets throughout the film:

John: “Yoko, Yoko, Yoko.”  yoko-ono_01

Paul: “Come on, guys.  Let’s play like we used to… except, play like this.”  [does demonstration]  a-hard-days-night-paul-3

George: “I’m a songwriter, too, you glory-hogging bastards.”  ahdn_george_05

Ringo: “Whatever.”  a-hard-days-night-ringo-13

^ spot on.  Maybe adding a bit for John being drug-addled for much of the time as well.

Someone enlighten me please. Why would Macca’s being dead set against it being released KEEP it from being released? He doesn’t own it far as I know…a-hard-days-night-paul-11.

The film is owned by Apple. No Apple project gets the go-ahead without the agreement of Paul, Ringo, Yoko and Olivia.

Actually, if you’ve never seen it at all, the whole thing was viewable on youtube as recently as (I think) May…although it was flipped sideways to make it pretty hard to watch.

Paul: Yeah well… first of all, we’re bringing out a ‘Stamp Out Detroit’ campaign.

Fortunately, I got to see this on YouTube BEFORE it was being turned on its side… though it was broken into 9 segments.  It might’ve been more interesting if everyone involved was genuinely interested in the project.  As it is, it’s the weakest of their 5 films.
