I just realized looking through this section of the forum that we didn't have a topic for Help! And most of the Beatle's fans I know this is always their favorite. So what do you like about this movie? Dislike? Made you fan scream like a teenage girl?

They like it better than A Hard Day's Night? Really?

There are a number of great moments, really funny moments in that movie, but it's such a different movie from A Hard Day's Night. I remember having a conversation with a friend about this, and he mentioned he liked Help better because there was more of a plot to it, where I kinda felt they threw stuff together, whatever made them giggle and that was that.

I always liked the house they lived in during the movie. I like the idea of them being roommates and each having these really different rooms, with one distinguishing characteristic for all of them.

I always wanted to know more about how Ringo got the ring in the first place. Did a fan send it to him, or am I making it up? If that's the case, was it only stuck on Ringo, and if not, how did she get it off her finger to send to him?*

(*I realize I'm putting too much thought into this movie now.)

I find Help! funnier than A Hard Day's Night. It was the first Beatles movie I saw and I remember just  busting a huge gut just watching it. Like literal tears in my eyes. I found it odd and hilarious. The fact that they were high and it was obvious just added to the humor. My favorite scene is the fight scene in their house including "The Incredible Adventures of Paul on the floor". So I prefer Help.

However, AHDN is more witty, better writing, and better acting (more because they really didn't need to try. They were really playing their everyday selves). This movie did make me scream like a fan girl though. And I haven't stopped.

I prefer the songs on Help! than AHDN. Both albums have great songs but Help! has the upper advantage with "You've Got To Hide Your Love Away".

In the movie he said the girl who was going to be sacrificed sent the ring to him. Hence, why they knew the needed to find the Beatles to get the ring back. How she got it off is another question that I haven't thought of until now....

Yeah, it's a totally different kind of humor! And stylistically it's cooler. I like how they present the 5 (?) different attempts to retrieve the ring, and that fight scene (including the one between John and George) is...it's ridiculous. That's what it is. Help has a lot of absurd humor in it (I can't imagine why) a-hard-days-night-george-10 and ADHN was much more straightforward.

ADHN was the movie that made me a screaming fan girl, too, so that's also probably why I rank it higher. But Help has its moments, too -- "Please say no more," that was a good bit, and there are a number of scenes I remember laughing at, but can't list them all.  I'd rate the music in Help to be better, as well.

This post is making me want to hunt down Help and rewatch it. :)

I like Help, it's pretty silly but it has it's moments. I really like the part in Anthology where they talk about filming Help, where Ringo and Paul ran about eight miles one day just so they could smoke a joint. As for the movie, I like how oddly written it is, it seems to fit the boys personalities pretty well.

I know. I'm always suprised because AHDN has such better writing and I think it has a bit more of a solidified plot to it.

Back to Help! then. It does have it's fun moments. Like I always kind of fan girl squel at the "Another Girl" scene, and I always bust a gut watching it. (Mostly when John's laying down on the rocks and does that funny dance like thing with his arms. It can always make me laugh anytime.) And the bathroom scene is pretty awesome too. (George without his shirt on. a-hard-days-night-george-10) I also like it's wacky humor, and the fact that you can totally tell their high just makes it even funnier. But I still enjoy AHDN more.

And I have to agree that Help! does have the one up on the music. I've been listening to the album nonstop lately.

HELP! has some amazing lines - such as "with a ring like this I could rule the world!" or "you're a failure aren't you jeweler?"

the lines go and on in that movie - I prefer AHDN in some ways, but I also think HELP! is often underappreciated.

Ah, the bathroom scene! I always liked how George literally laughs up his sleeve when Ringo states the obvious.

I just remembered the bit with the tiger: "All you have to do is sing the Ode to Joy from Beethoven's famous 9th Symphony and you'll be fine," and John says "Of course! Why didn't you think of *that*, you twit!" That cracks me up every time I have seen it.

George shirtless made me love the movie even more a-hard-days-night-george-9

I always quote "It's cold. It's a cold place."  I also laugh when they are at the queen's palace. That whole scene is played out well with the relativity condenser and the falling of the guards. I don't blame them for taking a while to do that bit. It's legit funny. The movie just brings in sheer laughs.

OK, the sky is blue and water is wet, and Help! in its entirety is on YouTube!

I have HELP in DVD - it was an official release - not sure if it's still out there - might be. I hope they re-do master it like AHDN - that is a great package.

My friends and I ever since the movie first came would always say, "It's a cold place" line. Also when we lose something someone always asks, "Has nobody looked in the wash basin?"

Again the movie is underappreciated - it is rich with great one liners. "Over the water we must go!"

"She looks more like him than I do."

a-hard-days-night-ringo-8I know this defeats the meaning of "steal," but if you're going to lift something I wrote, can I be the judge of your chicken dance, uh, dance-off, or in whose avatar is better or something?  a-hard-days-night-john-3
