George did, but he also was ponderously bitter and cynical in many spots, so much so that it frustrated me. The bit I always come back to are their final words on the whole experience:

Paul: “I’m really proud that nearly all of our songs dealt with love, peace, understanding…”

Ringo: (talking about the memories) “…the closeness…a hotel room here, a bathroom there…just four guys who really loved each other.”

George: “The fans gave their screams and The Beatles gave their nervous systems.”

He couldn’t have come up with something a bit more positive than that!?

I see your point, but personally wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. Apple has a tendency (most times anyway) to sugar coat the history of The Beatles. This brutal honesty is refreshing.

Totally agree…one of my minor niggling complaints about Anthology is that it glossed over too much of the negative. But as a final thought, George couldn’t have come up with something a LITTLE more positive than that?a-hard-days-night-ringo-14

Excerpt from the ‘Anthology’ section of a Guardian article on six of Will Dean’s favourite Beatles TV shows to watch:

Completists can top up the DVD set with the Anthology book, three Anthology CDs, Anthology pencil case, rat poison etc.

That article drips with the funniest sarcasm.

Storyville film first shown last year which suggested that as well as inventing sexual intercourse and changing the course of music history, the Beatles also ended communism. Well done fellas.

Watching that Shea Stadium performance of I’m Down , even Paul is laughing at John :D I’m always struck by the live performances in Anthology, it’s a great collection of them, and how they managed that level of professionalism in those circumstances is fantastic.

Now I'm a confused bassist ukulele guitar synthesizer kazoo penguin everyone who is definitely not @Joe.  This has been true for 2016 & 2017 Sig-Badge.png but I may have to get more specific in the future.

The Long And Winding Road ‘, the documentary Neil Aspinal worked on and which years later became ‘The Beatles Anthology’, has surfaced on a new dvd and audio set and is circulating in the bootleg world. Wogblog has a review of it.

Possibly the best place to put this, it was elsewhere. Anyone with a better location make it be known.

Something that might interest folk here is ‘The Beatles Anthology Revisited’ podcast available to download free from the website or from iTunes.

Time to give the Anthology’s another listen! a-hard-days-night-ringo-13

Only problem is (and what a problem to have), I have sooo many bootlegs that don’t have the Anthology cuts/edits, it’s hard to chose which to listen too!

Save yourself the agg and forget the Anthology edits exist where possible. If Apple ever get around to re-releasing this they should fix many of the tracks were possible, for one drop all the crap Emerick mixes that were initially for ‘Sessions’.

Unless under threat of death I will never again play the edits of ‘While My Guitar Gently Weeps ‘ and ‘Not Guilty ‘.

Why don’t like the Anthology version of that song?

There is an utterly pointless repeat of the guitar which eventually fades out when on the original take George plays to an end before saying “Lets here that back” (video below). Adds nothing but irritation does the edit.

Well, I was confused about Bongo saying he was going to give the Anthology’s (Anthologies) another “listen”. So that’s what made me think we had drifted off-topic (the cd’s instead of the TV show).

Best Anthology bits…I’ll get back on topic over the Christmas break. That’s when I plan to watch the rest of Anthology.

George’s “make it the short version” when paul gets over enthused during the jam session on the extras. Cracks me up every time.

Also when ringo says “it’s been great hanging out with you guys” georges wry “we might not see each other for another 40 years” LOL

And the version of “Ain’t She Sweet ” in the gardens at friar park…..fair warms the heart.
