Ooh, how thrilling to start a whole new topic....

Basically, I've (almost) seen the five main Beatles movies, and most certainly enjoyed them all... But what about these documentaries? Has anyone seen any of them? Are they good? Apparently the First U.S. Visit is one of the best ones. What do you all think?

I really like the 'First U.S. Visit' DVD. It was interesting seeing some footage between their shows. What was really interesting is how much George was so funny and was really open in the early days.

Hard to find good ones. The Complete Beatles is very good for a single dvd, although it is far less sanitized than Anthology. That's one of the reasons why I like Imagine: John Lennon so much — doesn't pull any punches. Anthology is, though, an outstanding collection of concert footage. I really hope there are plans down the road to release the film Let It Be as well.

I also have some 25th anniversary "Making of Sgt. Pepper" documentary, which seemed to be culled from the Anthology interviews, with lots of George Martin. My mom (bless her) actually recorded that, as well as Anthology (the whole thing) on VHS when they came out. I love her.

*9*

Edit: I also have this DVD of John and Paul's last interview with Larry Kane, which I need to watch.

The Maysles brothers' documentary on the first US visit is brilliant, as is Gimme Some Truth, about the making of Imagine.

1982, apparently. Basically it's just Anthology (same time frame), but it features no new info from the Fabs, but it has interviews with , their first manager Allan Williams, Cavern Club DJ Bob Wooler, music writer Bill Harry, and musicians Gerry Marsden, Billy J. Kramer, Marianne Faithfull, Billy Preston, and Tony Sheridan. (Yes, I stole that from Wiki.)
