"Many years from now" is a great book - but not a McCartney bio, if only because it focuses on the Beatle years.

Many years from now -so to speak - when the definite McCartney bio will be written, "Many Years From Now" will perhaps be seen as Volume 1.

For info, my first edition ends with I Me Mine on page 294. The paperback closes with Real Love/Anthology overview on p383. There's quite a bit of new stuff altogether - roughly 30% more book, going on page numbers alone.

Good point...they really only shared 1960s London in common. Still, it should be fascinating to read. Too bad there won't be any insight on Linda, Wings, John's death...I'd love to hear Paul's unfiltered take on those.

I was a little disappointed by that. Guess Paul wasn't ready to talk about Wings and beyond, plus I suppose Miles was less involved in his life and so much of the book hinges on his recollections as well. I still love the book though. Happy reading!

I had also bought the book when it came out in the early 90s, I remember hearing about it and eagerly awaiting it. I think I'd even preordered it so that I'd have it available to pick up at the bookstore on release day. Sounds like I need to get the updated edition ASAP. I disagree with some of his assessments (he really hates all of the "heavy" Beatles songs) and sometimes he's a bit too clinical but overall it's a great book.

I bought RITH when it came out, then bought the latest edition a few years ago. It's substantially improved - it has all the Anthology information, plus various other amendments (I haven't compared them, but Macdonald would have gone through all the latest information that emerged in the mid 1990s, and added what was relevant). If you have a first edition and enjoy reading it, I recommend getting the final version too.
