I don’t think you’re far off with your guess on the book…the first volume will almost certainly be from birth through the Hamburg years and maybe into early Beatlemania. ’64-’70 are going to need HUGE books to cover everything that happened in those eras.

I dont fear the long gap between each volume as it will take that long to read them. Maybe by the time we’ve finished reading Volume 1 Paul will have issued album 6 in his archive collection (there are around 40 of them in total, it began in 2010, and so far we have had 4: BOTR, Macca 1 & 2 and Ram ).

Maybe Paul is being thoughtful and giving us enough time to save up between each release.

I think Vol 1 is up to 1962

Personally, I’m kinda dreading the actual physical size of this Lewisohn magnum opus. It’s clearly not gonna be the kind of thing I can take with me to read on the bus!

Frankly, I’m more worried about the price!

I’ll just wait til they’ll appear in the library in this shit hole, which will probably be an eternity. But it’ll probably take a long time before it appears in Holland anyway.

I’d like the big and geeky and fancy one please.

Maybe we can go back to hire purchase and pay a pound a week for 40 years.

I´m running outta reasons to justify why I need yet another Beatles book, I´ll have to explain that this is THE ONE! Can´t wait for it to be released.

Btw, it’s available for pre-order from amazon.co.uk now for £30 (presumably not the extended superBeatlesgeek version), release date 10 October. I don’t know if other sites are listing it yet.

What is supposed to be the main difference between the “normal” and “Beatlemaniac” versions?

I mentioned this upthread. To save me typing it again, https://www.beatlesbible.com/f…..-3/#p60645

I’m guessing it’ll be about £50 for the full version. Quite a bit of money, but being a Beatles fan can be so expensive nowadays.

EDIT Holy fuck! £120! 1856 pages!

Scuse my language, but that was a bit of a surprise. That’s $193 USD at the current exchange rate. I’m sure it’s the full price and it’ll come down before it goes on sale, but still…

Holee shit!!!!!! I’ll have to get the geeked-out, souped-up version, but that’s a shit-ton of money. Still, 2000 pages…you’re getting value for the money!

I was expecting big but flipping heck 1856 pages – and this is only volume 1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Forget it talking a year to read thru it. The complete set will be nearly 6000 pages you’d have thought.

Whens good to suggest what to get you for Christmas? Anyone know some hypnotism or some really nice biscuits?

Well I’ve pre-ordered (they charge your card when it’s actually released, and give you the lowest price between Now And Then ). I can’t imagine the publisher will send me the big version as a freebie, and I want to get it as cheaply as possible before it comes out. I predict it’ll be around £90 when it comes out – 25% off seems to be about normal for new books.

I think if my local library had a copy they’d get fed up with me renewing it endlessly. I’ll have to buy it as a civic duty to my fellow residents a-hard-days-night-george-10

Better clear some shelf space though. This is going to be a beast of a book. I wouldn’t be surprised if each special edition is some sort of box set with two or more books contained within – the normal version, then the extras. You don’t normally get 1856-page books, do you?

I feel like we should have a Mark Lewisohn smiley.

Hi all,

I’m so excited about Volume One of this epic work – Tolstoy, eat your heart out!  DrBeatle asked about the difference between the normal version and special edition, and was promptly referred to Joe’s comment and link up-thread.  This still needs further clarification.  Despite my obvious love of the Fab Four, I am intent on purchasing the normal version (only 800 pages!) and will adopt this policy for the subsequent volumes.  The normal version is advertised on Amazon as “The Complete Story”: How is this so when there is a much bigger work being published concurrently?  I would be very grateful, Joe, if you could help me on this.  I’m presuming that “Complete Story” means the complete historicalstory and that the Special Edition will contain the very same story, but will then take on the role of a facts and figures book with more quotes about juicier aspects ie. in film-making parlance, the cutting room floor or the bits they didn’t want you to see!  I had a brief flick through Johnny Rogan’s mammoth work on the Byrds, Timeless Flight, not through any particular interest in the group, but just to see what I might be able to expect in terms of structure and layout.  The volume I was reading contained over 1,000 pages, but it was interesting that Rogan had a Notes section at the end that gave quotes from the band members pertaining to the event that was referenced by its page number.

In short, just as Lewisohn has left no stone unturned, I want to be sure that I am not missing out on key elements of the Beatles story through purchasing the normal version.  I know I’m fretting, but……….!

I wonder if I can convince my library to get the special edition.

I’m wondering about that too. I wonder if they’ll even be able to get the normal edition.

I thought the Anthology book was huge and heavy. I’m already thinking of ways to carry the special edition around.

I think (and actually hope) it will come in multiple books, I mean, who can carry a book with almost 2000 pages?

That’s not a book to put on the coffee table. Lol!

A book that size could *be* your coffee table!

It almost certainly will have to be split into smaller sections…there’s no other way to do it.
