OfflineMy second favourite after Lewisohn's Recording Sessions.
What I love (and admire) about this book is the research that went into it. It's the kind of book you can pick up, turn to any page and just start reading. Then you find you are still reading half an hour later…….
I think Lewisohn is THE writer / researcher when it comes to The Beatles and I'm looking forward to these:
In 2005, Lewisohn announced that he had started work on a three-volume Beatles biography. The as-yet untitled trilogy is set to be completed in 2018, with the first volume due out in 2010.

OfflineI agree completely. The summaries at the beginning are excellent, I just wish they went on a little longer. It may be tempting to skip over some of the journal entries (George Martin worked on the mono mix, it took 14 takes to record x, etc.), but there are often little tidbits and facts in them that shouldn't be missed.
I'm glad to hear that he's coming out with more!

OfflineFound this. It is a few years old but caught at the beggining when he announced the decision about the books:
It looks like this is being reissued in the US on 1 October: http://www.amazon.com/Complete?tag=thebeabib06-20…..569765340/
I doubt there's any new material though – in the interview mjb posted above Lewisohn expresses frustration at the way his books get reissued without his say, and even though he'd like to update the Chronicle he's fully committed to the three-volume biog right now.
From the product description: "First published in 1992, The Complete Beatles Chronicle has become the Beatles Bible". Damn! I've been found out!
It also says volume one of his Beatles biography is now being published in 2011. I actually don't mind the delay – it's clear he's going to be spending the extra time doing a very thorough research job, and it'll be worth the wait.

There is only one Beatles Bible and I am proud to be a member of its Forum. Keep up the great work, Joe.
To the fountain of perpetual mirth, Let it roll for all its worth.

I need to read some of Lewisohn's books. How weighty are they? (Don't worry, I won't be scared off.)
The great thing about his books are:
1. they are very extensive and long (which is brilliant)
2. You can pick them up and put them down at will. Read one page, read twenty – it doesn't mattter.
You will be spending money on something you wished you had years ago – I PROMISE

OfflineLewisohn's got a reputation (deserved or not) among some as a kind of fanboy ass-kisser. So it's refreshing to see that TCBC includes the occasional bit of negativism, for a better sense of impartiality. Among other things, he takes them to task for the undignified dismissal of Pete Best, the whole "Magical Mystery Tour" debacle, and for allowing their performing skills to deteriorate to an "all-time low" by 1966.

OfflineOk, I got it Yesterday, and Here are some first thoughts.
1. Holy Cow it is Big.
2. The Cover Picture Sucks
3. It would be hard to read it cover to cover, but I`m going to anyway
4. I`m only up to 1960, but It was Definetely worth buying
5. Lewisohn admits when he`s not sure of a day, which I admire.

What I meant is you can pick it up and if you then have to put it down you can just pick up where you left off anytime after – do you get me? I keep these kind of books in the bathroom for obvious reasons……and then I get "how much longer are you going to be in there for?"
