Its not just the remasters there are the Rock Band remixes. However a lot of bootleg material (bbc, studio sessions etc) has been cleaned up, repaired and/or upgraded from a better source over the last couple of years and sound better than before.

Not that any book will be exact tho, official and unofficial beatles material will keep being found be it minor or major. There is some great work being done by fans who are using the very latest technology to improve the quality of whats out there.

MMM - what information on the 2009 remasters would you like? Dates of when they were remastered? EQ equipment used? I'm not aware of any books that hold that info, though I suspect they'd be for a minority audience. Magazines such as Sound On Sound have run features on the process. Any more info would probably be quite a dry read.

Thanks for the answers! The suggestion to get the Winn books makes a lot of sense and that's the way I think I will go with.

On that note - is the any reason not to get this on Kindle? I generally get all-text books that way these days, but if the book has a lot of images, I still prefer to go with conventional print books (my Kindle is b/w, non-touch). For example, I wouldn't get the Lewisohn book on Kindle because of the illustrations.

So - any opinions on that score?

Thanks again

Going off topic is there an up to date book out there that covers the 2009 remasters? Winn's book was updated in 2008. Supposedly Doug Suply is working on something and no doubt either another update of Winn's books or a complete new release will appear at some point as well as other authors.

As MMM says, Chronicle has information on live and media appearances, and a slimmed-down version of the session info. It's a combination of Sessions and The Beatles Live!, two of his earlier books.

I suggest you get Chronicle, as it probably has a lot of material you haven't seen before, and the recording info is still largely intact (entries about mixing sessions or uneventful recording dates might be dealt with more brusquely, but the important stuff remains).

Instead of replacing your Sessions book, I recommend instead you get John Winn's two books, Way Beyond Compare and That Magic Feeling. They're ...

I would say you need both. Whilst Chronicles is far more far reaching over the beatles career up to 1970 giving details on concerts, interviews, tv and radio appearances etc as well the studio work, Recording Sessions goes more indepth, zooming in on how the beatles worked in the recording studios.

Greetings all,

This is my first post to this forum and I have a question.

I own(ed) a copy of Lewisohn's original Recording Sessions - but I can't find it. Most likely it will turn up - but in the meantime, I have a copy of his Complete Chronicles on the way via Amazon.

My question is this: I know that there is some duplication between the two books. Does the Chronicles come close to serving as a replacement or should I (assuming I can't find my original Recording Sessions book) plan on picking that one up as well? What material would i ...
