I am reading the Anthology right now, it's amazing. I like that it is in their own words, because those are the only words you can truly trust. I'm about a third of the way through... gonna take a while. Totally worth the time.

I think the Anthology is a must have for any real Beatles fan, but I don't think its the definitive book to read if you only could read one. It is great that everything is first hand, but it doesn't make it any more in depth or accurate than a book by a Beatles associate that was there every step of the way with them. yes - it could be considered 5 memoirs in one - john's, paul's, george's, ringo's and the band's (under the assumption that the band is it's own entity).

Sorry if this is off-topic. I didn't think it needed it's own thread, but would the Anthology be considered a memoir? I have to read one this summer for English and then we're gonna have to write about it the first week of school, so I figured I should do a book on The Beatles, becuase it's easier that way, I guess. I think it probably is, but I'm not so sure.

So I'm wanting to get a Beatles book that is pretty substantial, I'm going on a big trip and would like to having a Beatles book to read. I really want to try Anthology out but for anyone who has read it, is it really too bulky to take on a trip (plane/airport/car, lots of moving around)?

A lot of the information I've read in this book has been new, but it's not like big pieces of information, it's the little bits that make this book great. Then I remembered - it was actually over a 4-day weekend. I got the book on the Wednesday before this past Easter. I started reading it on Saturday and finished it on the following Tuesday. Our company gives us the Monday ...

It is certainly awkward to read, but to get to read their story in their words is great! But it is huge. It really needs little foldout legs.

No, but it's a book that you can just keep coming back to. Open up any page and it's filled with incredibly interesting material, plus the pictures are great. I wish there was a way to combine the greatness of Anthology with the knowledge of a Mark Lewisohn book, I'm sure Joe could do it.
