OfflineHello everyone. Look forward to pitching in.
I've written Into the Sky with Diamonds – a behind the scenes history book that examines the Beatles and the Race to the Moon.
They WERE the two greatest adventures of the 1960s (arguably two of the greatest adventures ever).
They were continuously intertwined like two threads of DNA from 1960 to 1970.
Ever hear why Capitol records had NO interest in the Beatles for an entire year?
What was so special about the Kansas City concert in 1964?
Do you know about the "voice analysis" that proved that Paul died in 1966?
What went so wrong in the Philippines?
What did the Beatles and James Bond's Sean Connery have in common during their respective trips to Japan in the summer of 1966?
On the astronaut front, how did Neil Armstrong nearly die during his first mission?
Why are all the "first man on the moon" pictures actually pictures of Buzz Aldrin – the second man on the moon?
The Apollo 8 astronauts went off into space to discover the Moon. What did they discover instead?
Roll up for the tour. Check out http://bit.ly/m04BC5 or http://on.fb.me/jJiC0J or http://bit.ly/i8ShZV
Look forward to your feedback!

Thanks for joining in the other threads, though. Please remember this is a discussion forum and not an advertising opportunity.
Edit: moved this thread into the books section.

(on this particular thread, there's only one degree of separation between the Beatles and the Apollo program, so here we go).
Thoughts on the movie Apollo 18 that just came out:
The original Mercury, Gemini and Apollo missions were more exciting!
The movie starts off with an amusing premise: Apollo 18 wasn't cancelled for budgetary reasons, it was instead turned into a secret mission. Alas it never really gets off the ground.

OfflineThe smiley? Mal Evans, of course. You? An surgeon by day, apparently. And the author of a book about replacement surgery. By the by, you have 14/14 5-Star reviews on Amazon's page for ITSWD.

OfflineRight on! (and thanks for the Amazon info).
Wonder how many people would pick up on that.
ITSWD is the story of the Beatles (and the Race to the Moon) as seen through the eyes of Mal Evans.
I don't think anyone spent more time with the Beatles than Mal: the studio, the concerts, the movies (he has a cameo in Help! – he's the swimmer). He's the perfect person to tell us all the behind-the-scenes stuff.
Can anyone think of anyone who might have spent more time with the Beatles?

OfflineNeil Aspinal would be up there regarding time spent, he was stuck in an Apple office whilst Mal was stuck in the Get Back sessions. I wonder who got the short straw there.

OfflineNeil vs Mal. Great topic on many levels.
Personally, I'd have rather been in Mal's shoes during the Get Back sessions since he was there day in day out.
But Mal got the short end of the stick big time… I feel bad for him.

OfflineAnd Mal did appear in Help!, Let It Be and Magical Mystery Tour.
The lovely people at Youtube have been deleting clips so had to go elsewhere but here you can see Mal hitting the anvil during rehearsals for Maxwell's Silver Hammer as shown in the Let It Be movie.

OfflineMeanmistermustard,
Great find!!!!!!
I'm impressed.
There are lots of little Mal-isms; that was the inspiration for making him the main character of Into the Sky.
He was one of the 4 pairs of hands at the end of "Day in the Life," etc…
If you find a clip of THAT let me know!!!

OfflineThey're actually pretty easy to find, if not on youtube a google video search will usually find them if they are online.
You did good to take Mal's name ITSWD as he deserves a bit more recognition. The 4 Beatles adored him.

OfflineI interviewed Lennon's New York optometrist last week.
Very nice, unassuming fellow. He made a large number of glasses for Lennon including the famous blood stained glasses Lennon was wearing the day he was shot. He has good stories to tell.

Don't forget his brief cameo in A Hard Day's Night. In the scene with John talking to the woman in the basement hallway, Mal walks by carrying a bass.

Offline2nd edition really out this time. A few glitches out there in the publishing world…
No major alterations; corrected a few typos; better correlation with website. Changed the back cover to better reflect the depth of the book. Footnotes/annotations still on the website.
