To be fair to Paul he was right as the song reached #7 in the US, #4 in the UK, and is a good song - tho the demo is far better.

George's 3 demos from the 25th February (Something, All Things Must Pass, Old Brown Shoe) are stunning. All different from the finished versions but in some ways just as good.

It still is interesting that someone would like one version over the other even though they are practically the same. I say interesting, not in a derogatory way, but rather because not everyone hears the same songs the same way. There is another thread in this Forum that bears out that point.

One After 909 would be a great single in 1963, possibly an EP with some covers, or own compositions like Long Tall Sally could've been issued in mid 1963? could've happened. Besame Mucho, and How Do You Do It? may've been released as a single, or in the EP with One After 909.

I'm sure I say what most of us would've done is to take out a song from Beatles For Sale, and include Leave My Kitten Alone. Though most say Mr. Moonlight, I would've left out Kansas City/ Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey! (Never a big fan of that song) with ...

Love the way Paul trills "Bulldog Drummond" in Searchin'.

And the way he whines, "Really?" after John messes up the beginning of "Mr. Moonlight" and stops.

I'm also a fan of In Spite of All the Danger and That Means A Lot (particularly the chord on "a time" or "a touch.")

I've always thought that George's "You know what to do" would have fit on the albums of its time period. Not that it's a particularly amazing song but I don't think it's worse than a lot of songs in the early part of the Beatles career and I happen to enjoy listening to it.

I also love the anthology version of "while my guitar gently weeps" and think that if Revolution could have 2 versions (not counting 9) WMGGW could have had 2 versions.

And while I'm on George, I enjoy the anthology version of "All things must pass" and definitely think ...

No matter what the take number or whether or not it sounds finished, we do agree it's a cool song.

I still can't help wondering what the final version would have sounded like on TWA.

It was labeled 102 but it certainly wasn't the 102nd take...if you read Lewisohn's book, they skipped LOTS of take numbers on that song. Still, he has them down as having spent an awful lot of time on it for a song that ended up being surplus. At least to my ears, it doesn't sound unfinished.

The released Not Guilty take is 102 and i dont believe it was in the running for inclusion when sequencing the album. The anthology version was edited in the '80's for Sessions and i hope it would have been unlikely to have been considered for release in that variation back in 1968 as it sucks.

The only one i would take is Leave My Kitten Alone over Mister Moonlight. I would be happy to leave Not Guilty in the vaults but its closely run with Savoy Truffle. A Get Back Oldies collection wouldnt have been bad but the tracks would have to be unedited and ...

You could be right - I will have to check the notes again that came with the CD's.

If that is the best they could have done with it, I'd be very surprised. I do like that version, as I stated earlier. But to me, it just doesn't sound 'finished' (polished?).

I don't think it's such an early take...they spent a LOT of time working on it and refining it before they left it off of the album, IIRC...
