George's 3 demos from the 25th February (Something, All Things Must Pass, Old Brown Shoe) are stunning. All different from the finished versions but in some ways just as good.

From the book: "Paul produced the record on 2 August at Abbey Road, making sure they followed his arrangement note for note, and sure enough it made number one in America."

It still is interesting that someone would like one version over the other even though they are practically the same. I say interesting, not in a derogatory way, but rather because not everyone hears the same songs the same way. There is another thread in this Forum that bears out that point.

I agree that the voice of Tom Evans was not exactly like Paul's. However, I maintain that musically, the versions are very similar. At least the producer of the song (some dude named Sir Paul something or other) insisted that it be done so. I just read in "Many Years From Now" that Paul insisted it be done note for note or else Badfinger could not have the song. I will have to go back and find the exact quote from the book,

And the way he whines, "Really?" after John messes up the beginning of "Mr. Moonlight" and stops.

I'm also a fan of In Spite of All the Danger and That Means A Lot (particularly the chord on "a time" or "a touch.")

My very favourite is possibly come and get it (one of my favourite beatles songsI have know idea why they didn't put it on abbey road, possibly because it was already so much paul on it (i think badfinger's version is aweful). He could at least have that very demo released on mccartney, on which everything was a one man band demo

 

I find it interesting that you don't care for Badfinger's version. Paul gave them that very same demo tape and told them to record it exactly the same. I find the 2 different versions very similar.

I agree. I had been a beatles fan for a long time when I first bought anthology, but I had only known the red and the blue album + the white album and some songs from their other one. I think i knew about half or 3 quartes of their songs but I didn't know tomorrow never knows because I knew very few songs from revolver and rubber soul.. I think I love it just as much as the final version.

Of course all the demo's and takes of SFF. It's interesting and nice to see how that song came about.

I do think there is stuff on it that was just unnecessary, as some songs sound too much like the final versions.
