All this rioting and stuff…I’m reminded of the words of Howard Cosell: “Remember, this is only a football game, no matter who wins or loses.”
meanmm, Marcelo was from Buenos Aires, so he’ll be supporting Argentina! Presumably.meanmistermustard said
Oh. So it was inside sabotage! No wonder he was so crap last night, he was actually Argentinian. Very clever tactics from him.
Oh wait, is there an actual PLAYER named Marcelo on the Brazilian team? (*does quick Google search*) LOL there is! I had no idea. I was referring to long-ago Beatlesbibler @Marcelo!
lolololol
Paul: Yeah well… first of all, we’re bringing out a ‘Stamp Out Detroit’ campaign.

I’ve heard there was a lot of arson (what a strange word) on the streets surrounding the stadium. Also, what happened in previous games and finals is not a guarantee for this one. We lost the finals of 2010 to Spain, and now we beat them with 5-1 in the first round. Also, we’ve only lost once to Argentina in World Cup history, but we might lose tonight. We have only won once from Germany I believe, but we might beat them Sunday. The fact they’ve beaten Brazil with 7-1 doesn’t mean anything, except that Brazil probably played very badly and Germany played well. So far, we have played well too. Winning with 7-1 isn’t a guarantee for winning with a score like that in the future. We won from Spain with 5-1, but we haven’t been able to top that yet. It doesn’t say anything and we could beat them, and I hope we will, because after losing so many times in the finals, I think we deserve it.
Umm – I think it was 5-2? But I appreciate the sentiment. As noted above Hungary beat Germany 8-3 in the group stages back in the 1950s and then lost to them 3-2 in the final after being ahead 2-0.
Ah well – maybe 3rd place beckons? After 2 consecutive 0-0 games I’m afraid I don’t think they deserve any more, though I had hoped they would do better after beating Spain so well. Bad time to fade – maybe the heat and illness got to them eventually.

Well that was utter shite. Such a disappointment.
A shame some of our best players suffered from illness, but that’s no excuse. What I can’t believe though, is that van Gaal didn’t get Krul (the other goalie who we used against Costa Rica during the penalties) in, but wasted his chances on people like Clasie. You can tell he didn’t expect us to lose or get to the penalties. And let’s be honest, Cillessen is a good guy and tried his best, but he’s just not a penalty goalie. After the first penalty you could see the fear in his eyes. And I don’t understand why they let Vlaar take the first penalty. He’s a defender for god’s sake! Argentina’s goalie was very good.
Yeah it’s sad, but winning by penalties is not a cool way to win either. Ah well, we wouldn’t have stood a chance against Germany anyway and I don’t think Argentina does. I think Germany will become World Champions. I hope we will be third, because getting beat by Brazil after their defeat would be quite embarrassing.

According to van Gaal two players refused to take the first penalty plus the Argentina goalie had been trained to save penalties by van Gaal at AZ Alkmaar (BBC). The plan was to have Krul on for penalties but van Persie was knackered – fail to see why considering he was anonymous thru-out the game, could have left him on for all the involvement he had.
Anyway the least said about that garbage the better. Lets just hope the final isnt a bore either. As for the third place play-off generally neither side is up for it, can’t remember the last decent one there was.
It has been the best World Cup for decades however: Italy, Spain, Portugal and England all going home early, so many open attacking games, so many goals, Spain’s thrashing by the Netherlands, England showing everyone how rotten they really are, Costa Rica & USA doing so well, Colombia, Tim Cahill’s strike against Holland, Ridriguez’s volley against Uruguay, and Brazil bumbling along to a semi-final convincing a nation it could win the World Cup before Germany pulls down its shorts and spanks it 7 times for having such deluded ideas before sending it out blubbering uncontrollably. Brilliant!!

Woah, didn’t know that about two players not wanting to take it, nor the fact Argentinas goalie played for AZ and was trained by van Gaal, woah, that must’ve heard even more.
About van Persie, he was sick, had stomach complaints or something. It wasn’t even sure whether he would play this game or not, but in the end he did. He missed half of Tuesday’s training.
