Complete myth.  Hate when TV shows use it.  If anything it's just stereo-typing a "Newfie" accent.  It would be the equivialnt of somebody assuming all Americans have a typical "Southern" accent.

I've never heard that was a Canadian thing, I always thought that was more of an English thing. Maybe it's just universal, though, because I know a few Americans who overuse that.
