Snip a dee, doo-da, snip a dee day!

I think we should just change the Irish language to your phonetic-version (we shall call it the ‘Ron Gránna Version of Irish’), your spellings are far less complicated than the real thing!

Póg mo thóin (which for all of yis who don’t know, means ‘place your puckers on my rear-end’).

And ‘The Pogues’ you say? I approve

That’s their spelling, not mine, if you don’t mind!

Another translation of Pogue Mahone would be The Stone Roses, “Kiss me where the sun don’t shine” a-hard-days-night-george-10.

I’ve just spent 4 minutes listening to what I thought was Bob Dylan doing a dance track only to find some track was playing in WMP alongside Dylan’s ‘Death Is Not The End ‘ in iTunes. Was actually quite a decent listen when you got passed the whole Dylan does dance.

ELO doing something like the Beatles!? a-hard-days-night-ringo-6 Only thing they dont do like the Beatles is make me want to listen to them.

I think i have an unwritten policy to demean ELO every time I see them named on this site.

Meanwhile.

Most people I know have no idea I grew up listening almost exclusively to classical music. It was not my choice; it was forced on me and I’ve been unable to listen to it for years. I’m glad to have come back to it on my own, though. Every so often, I get the urge to listen to classical music and today is one of those days. Mozart, to be more precise. My favourite piece ever is this one:

I’d be interested to know how they sound to you this way and what you think about their merits as you go along.

Well, I just finished. It’s really hard to say anything. I would say that Led Zeppelin I and II have some moments of greatness, but the awesomeness begins with III and just continues through Presence. In Through the Out Door has a few moments of greatness. Coda doesn’t.

So I would say the really solid albums are

III
IV
Houses of the Holy
Physical Graffiti
Presence

with bookends of

I
II

and

In Through the Out Door
Coda

With In Through the Out Door, Page’s heroin addiction had really kicked in, so you notice his absence from the creative process. And there are also the 80’s-sounding keyboards, which ironically sound more dated than the rest of the catalogue does.

I might have to say that my two favorites are Physical Graffiti and Presence.

^ Thanks, guess that’s what I expected, but appreciate the report as my purchases were pretty much going to follow that pattern.

Since pop music and the whole corporate “functional sound” factory pretty much sux, I’ve been recollecting music that touched and comforted me just post-Beatles era. Many singer-songwriters flourished in the 70’s (even as punk and disco smeared across the scene). John Prine, Eric Andersen, Jerry Jeff Walker, Joni Mitchell, among others, were escaping coffeehouses and actually getting national play on (God Bless It) FM radio with real dj’s who played whatever they wanted. So, yeah, I’m picking up cd’s from that era. Eric Andersen “Blue River”, John Prine “Sweet Revenge” & “Diamonds in the Rough”, Joni Mitchell “Blue”, Jerry Jeff Walker “A Man Must Carry On”. Nobody had a gimmick, or background dancers, or got into feuds with the other bubblehead bimbo on Twitter or looked like a cheap Las Vegas knock off…they just wrote and sang songs. Imagine that! Find a copy of Eric Andersen’s song Blue River with Joni Mitchell doing back up harmonies. Bliss! OM outta here!

Excited about the upcoming remixes I’m giving “Love” a spin.

Every time I do something new strikes me; just now it was how well Get Back segues into Glass Onion .

Mozart. Piano Concert #21 and Requiem.

Died at 35 – every time I recall that age I’m astonished at what he accomplished and saddened by “what might have been” Kind of like with The Beatles.
