This is my five-hundred-and-oneth post (in a brand shiny new thread– my first!). I am getting out of Shea Stadium, and wanted to create a place for BBers to post their “I just got into Abbey Road !” and “YAY I’M ON THE ROOFTOP NOW!!!!!” posts. And can one of you rooftoppers tell me how many levels there are?

Offline Actually, we had a thread like that and it got Maxwell’s Silver Hammer treatment. It is a really, really, really long story.
“Level” posts like that that are now made in the Impossible to Derail thread. I’m not sure if @Joe wants to unlock the other thread we had or have another one like it. We will let him decide. For now, let’s leave this thread quite. I don’t mean to dampen your excitement over your achievement. We are all glad you are here and contributing. It’s just the history surrounding that thread that causes me to put the breaks on this thread for now.

Offline It’s just an internet rule: if you add any status feature to a shared medium, feature will be abused for hierarchy and inferiority complex points. There’s just something in boys human nature to want to rank things and other people.

Offline That wasn’t the kind of abuse it received, @ewe2. The abuse that led to its shutdown was people posting nonsense just to get their post counts up so they could reach the rooftop. If the thread is opened again, that type of behavior would not be tolerated. I liked that thread until the abuse of it began. In fact, it was one of my favorite threads when I first joined the forum. I just wanted to say that so you know that I like the idea of your thread, @Beatlebug.

Offline I agree with Ahhh Girl. I like the milestone post thread but like any thread, it can be abused. Remember to always treat threads with respect and everything will be good. I think there were threads that didn’t get locked that are worse about the posting to improve post counts.
I thought it was locked to make the forum more Beatles related.
Getting to the roof top is fun just don’t get too crazy about it.

I’ve been on forums where threads like that were started just to abuse the stat, and on forums where all stats had to be removed because they became the focus of posts, that’s what I meant by my post. People will make a competition out of these things. It just doesn’t surprise me.

Offline Personally speaking i’d rather the milestone thread remained closed and all the related reaching goal posts remained in the Impossible to Derail thread. I really dont want to go back to seeing folk posting every time they hit multiples of 50 or whatever it was. If it was sensible goals (500, 1000, 5000 etc) then it might all be bearable but it wont ever remain like that instead being post 387 and having overtaken Beatlover34* who was 345th in the list with 386 posts. Big whoop.
If i remember correctly (and i rarely do) Joe created the milestones when not many folk were on as a bit of fun and never thought they would become so important to people to the point of clogging up the forum.
*created off the top of my head, apologies if such a person existed at the time of this post.

Thanks MMM. Yes, this was all dealt with at the end of the Milestones thread. I don’t mind similar discussions going in the impossible-to-derail place, but we don’t need a dedicated thread for it here. I’ll lock this one too.
I’ll keep the forum rankings because people like them (as do I) but they’re just a bit of fun; nothing to get hung about.
