I eventually picked Mathematics (Statistics) as my fourth option. I'm still in two minds over whether to go for science or politics long term, but I think the stress would be too great in politics. Law is still there as another option, I suppose.

Cameron is a self-serving pig-headed politician. He has lied to the country in order to trick them into rejecting having greater democracy, with his main lie being "you're too stupid to understand this system". I couldn't put up with people like that.

The party-political rivalries you describe are an extreme version, but most people who want to make a change for the better find themselves at some point up against obstinate managers and people who don't share your vision.
