In the case of Double Fantasy, they were printing new copies as fast as they could after 8 December. It was sold out most everywhere by the time shops shut on the 9 December, and new copies were being rushed out worldwide.

As I say up above, records are not like books. Without label/sleeve variations, there is no way to tell. The value of a record is held in variations on the normal, so even if you could say it was bought at the end of November 1980, it wouldn't be considered any different by collectors than a copy from Geffen's last vinyl run in 1988.

The only additional value it could have would be sentimental value to you, liking the thought that it dates close to release.

Here's the label of my (UK) Double Fantasy, bought on the day of release - as Mr. Nasty says, probably no difference to later releases, but at least I can say I was buying John Lennon records on the day of release when he was alive!

Don't know why it's rotated - it's not on my computer.

The 2014 Record Store Day list is up...

Nothing Beatles or Beatles solo that I saw, sadly...

If I spoke prose you'd all find out, I don't know what I talk about.

Excellent, there's an American Authors single. One of two current bands I like. And a Nirvana single. And an Oasis single. And a Pogues Live LP with Joes Strummer! Disappointed not to see a Radiohead release, they're normally there. I'll try to get to a record store on that day!

There are a few really nice titles this time around.  I'm always impressed with Warner's contributions.

Sadly, I'm sure most of these will only be found on eBay for stupid prices.  I'll definitely be able to get that Bowie "1984" 7-inch picture disc though.  My stores always get the Bowie 45s.

E is for 'Ergent'.

I got it. Looks to be a good selection. I really hope my record store orders the Pogues/Strummer live album.

Maybe you'll get lucky... I just wish I knew about this last year, because there was something by Wings and a Ringo singles box set.

I like the idea behind RSD, but a lot of the stuff that gets released really winds me up. It feels like an excuse for record labels to reissue old stuff as limited editions in fancy packaging, which have no value apart from their rarity. So a small proportion of fans gets to buy them if they queue early enough, but a lot get snapped up by dealers and put straight on eBay at higher prices.

I'd have less of a problem if there was some great new music, but who needs a David Bowie picture disc of something that's been available since the 70s? Or a Beatles box set that contains no new/unreleased music but just so happens to be in a fancy box? This isn't done to support the record stores - it's been hijacked by the major labels. It'd be far better if they put out non-limited releases but stipulated they could only be sold in independent shops rather than online - that'd take away the resale value but put music into the hands of the fans.

Maybe I'm just out of the target market. I haven't been in a record shop for months. I used to practically live in them, but nowadays they don't really offer me any benefit I can't get online. Sad to say but I wouldn't regret their demise.

I also like this attitude:

Totally LOVE Vinyl. It truly is the way to hear the classics!! Especially the Fabs!!

I've been kicking myself that over 20 years ago I got rid of (yes for RENT reason's) the entire Beatles British Catalog that I had collected. I first started buying them  when I was in junior high, early 80's, "Musicland" (..if you live in the states, you might remember that chain of stores!) had the "JEM Imports"! I also picked up around the same time, The White Album on Apple/white vinyl. I recently found out that it might have been a French import..none the less way collectable today!! Several hundred dollars on Ebay! I'm trying to rebuild that Parlophone collection today! A little bit of a financial stretch, but worth it to me! I DO have all the US Stereo and mono. I have the Parlophone stereo's through Help and a few mono's. I do want them all though!! Interesting to see how rare a mono Revolver on Parlophone is!! Anybody have ideas why? Is it more rare..more sought after of the mono versions? Anyway...who knew in the 70's and 80's how sought after our Beatles vinyl would be..much less in the 60's!! It'll be many years of searching out those great vinyl deals!!

Birthday finds at the record shop:

Imagine, really good condition!

Living in the Material World, also good.

Wings' Wild Life, in good condition however it's in a black sleeve the original unable to be located.

I must say I'm happy with that!

I did!  I only had 3 cds, all the vinyl disappeared, and I had no copy of all the singles that weren't on an album (practically all).  But I'm a rarity here I'm sure... @Ahhh Girl might understand, since she's a new fan.  It was a quick way for me to get the canon.  Speaking of which, I think the singles should be included.

You caught the unedited copy!  But yeah that was weird.  And then when I typed '@Ah' it came up with Ahhh Girl but some weird @address, yet it showed up as @Ahhh Girl (and now she will wonder why she's being mentioned so often)

I'm not into vinyl, but since I've been mentioned, I'll respond to the newbie theme. BTW, this record shop day thingy this year is on my birthday.

Yes, when you go from 0 to *what post number is this for me? oh, 3025 - hadn't looked at the number since about 1,000 ago, geez Louise*, a box set is a good thing. I didn't know about mono/stereo/US/UK last year. I saw a pretty black box of cd's that said it had all the regular Beatles stuff so I figured it was a place to start. I didn't want to piecemeal it all together. I had been piecing together Paul's solo cd's, using an Excel spreadsheet to keep track of what I had and what I still needed to get. For Christmas, one of the presents I asked for was the John Lennon Signature Box set. That is the way to go.

I'm collecting George and Ringo cd's now. A box set for George and sets of what Paul and Ringo have released so far would have been a nice and tidy way to collect all of those.

So, to try to bring this back around on topic, a box set of vinyl done reasonably by all involved in the selling chain would be nice.

Back in the dark days of early 1981, EMI released a box set of John's (EMI) albums. I managed to get hold of a copy, I think I still owe my Mum a fair few quid!. Even though I had a few of them it was a great way to get an instant collection.

There's supposed to be a new release of the mono box on vinyl, would be the way to go for me.

I agree a vinyl box set would be nice, but I bet it would be out of my price range.  The uk/mono box set was like 129 USD, the stereo 229, the vinyl would probably be more than that.

I went to my local record shop looking for a remastered copy of The White Album that they had. It wasn't there, but they'd just gotten in an older copy of it, which I have a question about. It sadly has no inserts, and is not numbered or embossed. I did some research and according to that it should be from 1976-78. The records are in REALY good condition which doesn't seem to match the sleeve, which is good but seems to have water damage. In this research I found that the serial number inside my bifold is SEBX-11841 which apparently belonged to the White vinyl edition of the album. It's an orange Capitol label. Does anyone have any idea when the record could be from? Do you think the records àre in the wrong sleeve or did the release plain vinyl with that serial?
