OfflineAmusing fact I just learned 2 minutes ago:
The best known example of the resignation of a Pope is that of Pope Celestine V in 1294. After only five months of pontificate, he issued a solemn decree declaring it permissible for a Pope to resign, and then did so himself.

I love that idea of wanting to resign so you just make it ok since youre Pope and off you pop(e).

OfflineRick Huxley, one of the founding members of The Dave Clark Five, has died at the age of 72. With hits such as Do You Love Me, Bits and Pieces and Glad All Over (not to be confused with a song of the same name that the Beatles covered and which appears on Live At The BBC) The Dave Clark Five were at one point heralded by some as going to replace the Beatles as the biggest act on the scene in the UK when Glad All Over replaced I Want To Hold Your Hand at number 1. They also had notable success in America and released their own film in 1965 called Catch Us If You Can.
Sad news indeed.

OfflineA little self indulgence.
Currently i am
taking paracetamol for a persistant headache
using ointment for a blocked ear
using cream for bad feet
using different cream for a bad knee
taking cough sweets and drinking milk for a sore throat
And its bloody freezing.
I hate, hate, hate February, its crappier than all of January which sucks too. Someone should get on to Mother Nature and get her to change how the seasons work, get her to rip it all up and install damn sunshine and warmth. Either that or give me snow. Not just cold, dark and wet.![]()

OfflineMy sister was born in February as was my Grandad – still doesnt change the fact the month blows bigger than any other. At least in January you have the delight of knowing Christmas and New Year are as far away as monthly possible. Even folks who love Christmas and buy presents in the January sales are delighted its passed by the 7th January, will belt anyone who dares sings a note of any Christmas song, and are happy. All of that by February is gone and everyone is just as miserable as the weather.
Who says the movies are where you have to go for amazing stories, just turn on the US news tonight. Flipping heck. Amazing, amazing to see it unfold before your eyes. Good cop gone bad involved in shoot out with police, holded up in cabin, surrounded by SWAT, tear gas fired, now the cabin is in flames and ammunition going off inside the cabin. Incredible. All thoughts go to those who have lost loved ones in this story and the policeman who was killed in the shoot out. Sadly it was never going to end well.

OfflineNever knew that Apple released a promotional Walls Ice Cream EP back in 1969 which you got thru mail order.
Weve had about 6 hours of snow today. Mother Nature must be a reader of this forum. Im as happy as Wile E. Coyote would have been if he had finally caught the Road Runner and slowly eaten him.
And on the topic of Looney Tunes just found out that there is an album called Bugs and Friends sing The Beatles, the voices suck but there are some very very funny moments. Well worth the listen as there a ton of references to other beatle songs.
Cant Buy Me Love is funny as Duffy was so about money, jewels etc so spends the whole song making wisecracks.
Road Runners "Beep Beep Beep"'s during TLAWR are sheer class and the song is so sick as its obviously Wily trying to kill the Road Runner.

Shouldn't that be Daffy? Though it wouldn't surprise me if the blonde Welsh songstress turned out to be a Looney Tunes character!

Yip. Strange typo as the u is nowhere near the a on my keyboard – but i make typos all the time here. Who is Duffy, i have some avenue in my head but it then runs to Electric and Electric Avenue was definately not Duffy.

OfflineMeanMM's right, February sucks – only good thing about it is the fact that it's only 28.25 days long, on average.
But hey, I'm feeling good about myself because I've been smoke-free for a week now! Not that I was a particularly heavy smoker (coupla packs a week), but even so. Of course, the REAL test will come when I drink & socialize with family/friends who smoke…

Warwick Avenue. Mercy. Often hailed as modern Dusty Springfield.
By who? I only ask as most tv shows nowadays proclaim every two-bit talent singer who can warble for a couple of seconds and get within one mile of a note as the next Freddie Mercury, John Lennon, David Bowie, Frank Ifield, Mr Blobby, Frank Sinatra, Madonna, Beatles, Westlife, One Direction, Aretha Franklin, Abba, Elvis, Stevie Wonder (add any other singer who's ever done anything to the list who's name is wrongly tossed out). I recall hearing her name a few years back but not recently. Same as Kate Nash who had a massive album and big success for a time but has disappeared quicker than she arrived. Only one still about from that time (to me they seemed to arrive around the same time when i think about them now) that i know of is Adele sadly as i cant stand her.
The prove that February sucks is that it only lasts for 28 days (as von bontee pointed out), not even whoever put our calender together could bear the idea of February lasting so long. The idea was obviously to just get it over as quickly as possible and move on to the upcoming Spring.

From her Wikipedia entry, though I know that's only as a good a source as whoever wrote it, but having written some of it, and knowing I was trying to be as accurate as possible… "She said at first she did not understand the comparisons to Dusty Springfield and believes the comparisons with others or putting her in a movement is 'a gimmick' and noted that 'nobody is replaceable'. Later some of Springfield's friends sought out and befriended Duffy. Duffy was quoted as saying they tell her she is much like Springfield and talk to her as if she were around during the 1960s." And I have heard her in interviews say how flattered she was when some of Dusty's friends sought her out because they saw similarities. I'd call it creepy but… hey-ho!
