Many years ago, in my first graduate job, I used to work with a guy called Mike Barnes when he was writing a biography of Don Van Vliet. I believe it's called Captain Beefheart: The Biography. He used to share a lot of stories about him - I ...

I'll definitely give Safe as Milk a shot when I get to it, I don't know when it will be on the great journey of music, but I'm positive it will happen.

Gniknus, Trout Mask Replica is probably my third-or-fourth favoutite album ever, but I can TOTALLY empathise with folks who hear it and are horrified - just like I was, during my first half-dozen listenings. After which they become perversely fascinated at the daring-ness, then slowly aware of and impressed with the musicianship on display, then get accusotmed to it, then respectful, then come to like it, and finally love it.
