Joe Cocker who is famous for his version of “With A Little Help From My Friends “.  Personally, I prefer this version over The Beatles, which is a rarity. It is also the first version of the song I heard because of the show “The Wonder Years” used it as their theme song. Strangely, I was just watching my Woodstock blu ray the other day.

R.I.P. Joe Cocker.

His version of ‘WALHFMF’ is so bluesy and soulful it’s as if it’s a completely different song. One of my favorite covers of a Beatles song.

Sad news about Joe Cocker succumbing to lung cancer.

Though released (on his second album) after Abbey Road , Joe recorded versions of She Came In Through The Bathroom Window  and Something  before The Beatles did. George even played rhythm guitar on Joe’s version of Something . There was also a version of Let It Be  recorded during the same sessions.

One of the greatest British blues/soul voices ever. He’ll be sadly missed

RIP Joe.

My favorite cover of his cover (my 2nd favorite being John Belushi’s version, but Universal’s taken that off YouTube).

I heard it on the 6pm news right at the end the news-reporter said “reports coming in that the singer Joe Cocker died today, good evening”. I was reading at the time and just jolted upright, it is a sad thought that all the old rockers are slowly dying off, in 20 years or so they’ll be all gone.

Finishing off his Beatles covers here is his version of Come Together from the Across The Universe film

R.I.P

Not a fan but sad to see him go – quite the character. That Mad Dogs and Englishmen tour was quite the event, with Leon Russell in full force as well.

RIP Jane Bown, veteran photographer for the Observer newspaper. She photographed The Beatles on a number of occasions, once when she was walking her dog in Knole Park, Sevenoaks and happened across them filming the Strawberry Fields Forever promo.

Here are some of her Beatles pictures: http://www.theguardian.com/mus…..johnlennon

I have a framed print of this photo, signed by Jane, above my desk right now:

I was still living in NY State during his first two terms as Guv. I recall he was a good one.

From Billboard:

Stan Irwin, a Las Vegas producer and manager for such celebrities as Johnny Carson, has died at age 94.

Irwin’s friend and business partner George Michaud says Irwin died Wednesday of natural causes in Los Angeles.

Irwin guided the careers of such celebs as Don Rickles, Buddy Hackett andPearl Bailey. He was credited for bringing artists like Judy Garland, Frank Sinatra, Marlene Dietrich, Paul Anka, Bobby Darin, Brenda Lee, Bob Newhartand the Beatles to perform Las Vegas.

Irwin also served as executive producer of “The Tonight Show” in 1962, which was the first year of Carson’s tenure. He also voiced the Lou Costello character in Hanna-Barbera’s “The Abbott and Costello Cartoon Show” in the 1960s.

He is survived by his wife, Marjorie.
