I'm reading a book at the moment which is to help you ''return to your true self''. It's a little difficult to explain but it's supposed to help you see things more clearly and love yourself, and therefore others, by connecting to your higher guidance. At first, I thought it was a book written by somebody religious so I was surprised to learn that, actually, your higher guidance is inside of you, inside everyone, it's just that some people either choose to ignore it or are completely unaware of its existence. Anyway, the author wrote a little tip, and I ...

Anyone else know any good mantras?

I think the best mantra is the one you create yourself. It doesn' t matter what it is as long as you like it, resonates with you and (I prefer) it' s meaningful. The idea of the mantra is basically just to focus when your mind wanders. My mantra for example is an expression in German that means "You have to be dead to live".

I meditate listening to Chopin music (I tried the Beatles but they are too distracting). I do it basically to get ...

Developed from Buddhist meditation, it is now regularly used in psychological treatments, and was something I was taught when in hospital a couple of years ago to help with my stress and anxiety. I will do one or two exercises most days, and find it helps a great deal.

It's easy, but difficult at the same time. All you do is sit still for about 25 minutes and do nothing except focus on yourself breathing in and breathing out. You will have a tendency to start thinking about things, and that is called the "monkey mind." You can't be angry at the monkey, you have to just go back to focusing on the ...

I sometimes do it in science and French (of all classes) with my friends by chanting in my head or muttering chants or mantras under my breath. It really zones you out sometimes and I've had teachers walk right up to my desk and yell KATIE! and I'll snap out of it and say "yes?" ...

It is similar to this quote by Thomas Merton: "Thank God I am like other men, that I am only a man among other men."
