OfflineOh beautiful. for spacious skies…
I don't know what I'll be doing, probably what Americans do best: have a good time and watch stuff get blown up (fireworks). My girlfriends dad has a boat so maybe we'll get to cruise down the river and watch the fireworks in downtown Toledo. Although tonight I get to go to a Moody Blues concert so that should be a lot of fun.

OfflineWe have neighbors who buy LOTS of fireworks for Independence Day and New Year's Eve. Also, for the 24th of July, since we live in Utah.
A favorite joke of my dad's to tell: Do they have the 4th of July in England? My brother: No! My dad: Of course they do! You wouldn't expect the calendar to go straight from the 3rd to the 5th, now, would you?

That's a pretty clever joke!

WHAAAAAT?!
Fun! Rock out (as in, slowly bob your head) to Nights in White Satin for meeee
Since it's going to be on a Sunday this year, everyone's celebrating on Saturday and Monday, so that'll be nice! My sister and I have an Independence Day tradition where I stick a Sparkler in her hair… oh, family.
Sunii, that's probably the best fourth of July celebration I've ever heard of. Have fun, all o'you!

Imagine having a sparkler thrown in your pants….yeah, my friends are sweethearts.
And no it really isn't the best celebration. An even better celebration would be tee-peeing and throwing fireworks at all the teachers' houses, but we are all wayyyy too chicken!

OfflineAs a (pretty freaking cool) teacher, I don't find that nice at all.
I will probably be moping for the Fourth of July, working on my dissertation and wishing I were watching fireworks and/or hanging out in my best friend's pool. One of my American friends here is supposed to be organizing a bbq in the park, funnily enough for international types who want to partake in an American tradition; if I can stop moping long enough, I might go and join him.
Mind you, when I'm in America in the fall I'll be moaning about wanting to have Bonfire Night. Stupid dual nationality.

Lucky! You can't legally buy them here.
Note: These are the kind you set off in your driveway, not the kind people usually think about. Sparklers, smoke balls, and those little balls of explosive that you throw on the ground and make a cool sound.

Yeah, no. Just the poppers that throw lame clumps of confetti here. Luckily, we have cool neighbors and the cops have better things to worry about – it's just annoying.
