This is going a bit off-topic, but apparently the early collaborations Costello and McCartney did for Flowers In The Dirt were scrapped because EC wanted it to be experimental and PM was in his mainstream big studio production days (he needed a hit he could tour with).

Also EC learnt to sing harmonies from Beatles records, and when he joined in on songs with PM he found himself subconsciously singing a 'John Lennon' part. PM apparently didn't like that and the recordings fell apart. On an unrelated note, Elvis did a wonderful version of Penny Lane at Paul's Gershwin Award ceremony. The ceremony was recently broadcast here in the U.S. on PBS. I just found a website that allows you to watch the ceremony. I'll start a separate thread for it.
