One thing I don’t get with guns is if people buy them for protection, hunting and to make a militia, then why isn’t gun training required to own a gun? Cars require training because they can be a danger to others and themselves which is the same with guns. With training, people would be able to better use the guns for protection.

Other note: The US is the only country that doesn’t respond to something like this.

I beg to differ. There is always a response. Unfortunately the N.R.A. (Neanderthal Retarded Assholes) responds in a larger way by lining the pockets of and providing favors for politicians.
Makes me want to puke.

That’s a better way of saying it. I meant the laws don’t respond. You’re right that the people do.

Being curious, I had to go take a look at the Bill of Rights of 1689 about the gun laws.

Whereas the late King James the Second, by the assistance of divers evil counsellors, judges and ministers employed by him, did endeavour to subvert and extirpate the Protestant religion and the laws and liberties of this kingdom;…
By causing several good subjects being Protestants to be disarmed at the same time when papists were both armed and employed contrary to law;

And thereupon the said Lords Spiritual and Temporal and Commons, pursuant to their respective letters and elections, being now assembled in a full and free representative of this nation, taking into their most serious consideration the best means for attaining the ends aforesaid, do in the first place (as their ancestors in like case have usually done) for the vindicating and asserting their ancient rights and liberties declare…
That the subjects which are Protestants may have arms for their defence suitable to their conditions and as allowed by law;

Very interesting. Thanks for bringing it up, Wigwam.

I’m really happy that the USA has legalized same-sex marriage in all 50 states. I have a lot of gay friends and I’m very happy for them. It’s nice to see my country taking steps forward for once!

The decision by the US Supreme Court on same-sex marriage is remarkable but has to be put into context. In many ways the US now has to run to catch up with its equality laws now. Most countries had strong legal protections against discrimination of their LGBT citizens in place long before they reached the decision to legalise same-sex marriage. Sadly this is not true of the US. In only 22 States is it against the law to fire or evict someone because they are homosexual, or to not offer them the job or home because they are homosexual. Three of those States do not extend those protections to their transgender citizens.

What the US needs now is the equivalent of the 1964 Civil Rights Act to offer federal protections to their LGBT citizens where States refuse. Given the make-up of the Senate and Congress at the moment, and the huge political weight of the religious far-right, the chances of such a Bill being proposed and passed seems somewhere between nil and zero.

Until there is national protection even this huge step is not as big as it might seem, and – just as there have been those looking to overturn Roe v Wade since 1973 – there will now be those looking to overturn Obergefell v Hodges. Until you are protected from being sacked or losing your home if you get married, including by the State were you employed by the State, it remains only job part done…

I was very happy to hear that bit of news today. I’ve been a huge LGBT supporter for as long as I can remember. It’s just always seemed perfectly logical to me that everyone should be able to love and marry the person of their choice, regardless of gender. I’m definitely not an exception in my country, given the fact that in 2001, the Netherlands was the first nation to have full marriage equality.

I’ve made several gay friends in the recent years, which made the cause more tangible for me. Not that any of my friends are American, but still. I realise there’s still a lot of ground to cover, but at least the USA has started to arrive in the 21st century.

Hey! I’ve seen that bridge.  Groovy.

I say in speeches that a plausible mission of artists is to make people appreciate being alive at least a little bit. I am then asked if I know of any artists who pulled that off. I reply, 'The Beatles did'.

I don’t know where else to post this.

I am a Londoner, I was born opposite Dockhead Fire Station, in Bermondsey, South London. I am very proud to be a Londoner.

Ten years ago today, just before 9am, it started to be reported that there had been a power surge on London’s underground railway (we call it the Tube).

Within the hour, a bus blew apart in Tavistock Square. We then knew it was not a power surge, that our beautiful city was under attack. Muslims, Christians, Jews, Atheists and non-believers had been attacked by scum. By scum. I will not name them, because they do not deserve a name. No more than he who shot John, Christian abortion clinic bombers, IRA and Unionist bombers. Anyone who thinks these scum represent anything but their own twisted and abominable views should be ashamed.

My city was attacked by four worthless scum who DO NOT REPRESENT THE FAITH OF ISLAM.

Let us today remember all those of the professed faith they disrespected, of other faiths, and of no faith. They are scum. Worthless scum.

I cannot list all the hundreds of injured, many of whom had their lives changed forever by the actions of four pieces of scum who represented no religion.

We remember the dead of every faith and none:

Its illegal again in the UK to buy a cd and rip it to your computer or play it on your ipod, in your car etc.

How on earth are they meant to enforce such a ruling? Random checks on the road where you are pulled over to the side and asked to prove that the song you are singing along to wasnt first bought on cd and then copied over? Morning house raids to ensure the music on your laptop is not from a cd?

Its as likely to be enforced as arresting someone in England for eating a mince pie on the 25th December. Thankfully i’m in Scotland where it is legal to do so. My country is immense. a-hard-days-night-john-5 a-hard-days-night-john-1

Not sure I understand your question…….Unless you’re distancing the bombers completely from mainstream Islam.

If the bombers had carried out their attacks in the name of something other than religion we would note their motivation ……. It’s absolutely right that we do so in this context too.

Islam is being twisted into a religious death cult. I believe it could do more itself to combat this amongst its brethren.

RIP those that died and the ones shot in America yesterday.
