Was just sitting here bored at work and found this amusing-
First, the MAIN GUY in the band besides Paul and Linda is named DENNY LAINE!! In light of "Penny Lane," this is just goofy. Second, there's ANOTHER GUY named DENNY in the band!* Then, two guys with the same last name – McCullough - who both play lead guitar, but who are NOT RELATED TO EACH OTHER!** This "Denny"-heavy lineup changed when drummer Denny Seiwell was replaced by Geoff Britton, which was fine, until his replacement turned out to be a guy named JOE ENGLISH! Haha, I don't know. I think I have too much time on my hands but I find these peculiarities funny- anyone else? Gotta love Wings.

Yeah, I love weird stuff like that. Like Duran Duran having three completely unrelated Taylors, or the only beardless guy in ZZ Top being named Frank Beard.

Denny Laine was one of the original members of the Moody Blues, and was the force behind their early monster hit, "Go Now." Wings used to perform that song in concert, with Denny singing the lead. It's a great song, if you're not familiar with it.
Don't get me started on Duran Duran. They were pretty boys handpicked by a producer for looks rather than talent. The original Prefab Five. "Hungry Like the Wolf" indeed.

I used to hate Duran Duran, mainly because my older sister loved them. Now I think they're just a silly band, nothing more, nothing left.

Never gave them much thought untill I heard Princess Di in an interveiw state that she liked "Durany" ……..very fluffy if I be asked.

John Taylor was/is a really underrated bass player. If you listen back to their earlier hits there's a lot of really nice melodic stuff going on.

I remember I was a fan…..but now I don't even have one of their songs in my music collection.
But then, I saw Layer Cake and I remember listening to Ordinary World, I said "Wow.. that song is fantastic" and when I checked on Internet I was 
when I discovered it was Duran Duran. I really, really like that song.

Ok maybe I'm changing the topic but how many of you were Duran Duran or Tears for Fears or any 80s band fans and then stopped listening to them in the late 80s?
I was a HUGE Tears for Fears fan (I still have The Hurting aand Songs from the Big Chair albums and some single LPs) but I remember I was kind of "uh?" when I listened to the premiere of Sowing the Seeds of Love, I thought "Ok this is not Sgt. Pepper" but in those days I was already into U2. I forgot about Tears for Fears, Duran Duran and all those 80s bands, and I think I missed some good stuff. Now I'm rediscovering all that work they did in late 80s and early 90s.
I wonder if that happened to many Beatles fans when they grew up beards and started doing crazy stuff.
Edit and with crazy stuff I mean Sgt. Pepper. Although Revolver was a hint of where they were going….

I remember seeing a clip of Dick Clark's American Bandstand. It was a clip from the show that aired the video of Strawberry Fields Forever for the first time.
After the video, a somewhat stunned-looking Clark asked his audience what they thought of the song. More than 1/2 of the kids in the audience (who looked equally stunned) hated it.
We keep hearing from a lot of people (not me!) that say Pepper was the best album they ever put out. It is really not that far fetched, however, to assume that they lost some fans when the Pepper era music came out.

One of Tears For Fears (Curt Smith I think) went to my old school in Bath (he was a few years older than me – I never met him).
Beatles link: apparently they were named after Janov's Primal Scream therapy. They also released this very Beatlesque single:

Interesting! I think we forget what reactions their albums caused. For sure I don't know which my reaction would have been.

I think Roland Orzabal said they were inspired by Sgt Pepper.So very Beatlesque indeed. And you were right about the name, that's why one of their songs is Shout.
And that's cool!! I always remember they were from Bath because one of my favorite books ever, Persuasion, has the final scenes set in there..

Great band! I like their songs a lot, and of course, "Sowing the Seeds of Love" is beatlesque, you don't need their confirmation, just hear it.

Yep, exactly. First time I heard it – it was a big deal, being their first single for several years – first time I heard it, I immediately thought, "aha, 'I Am The Walrus' meets 'Hello Goodbye'".
And Joe's right: Duran Duran had fabulous (disco-influenced) basslines! And nice arpeggiated Roland synth textures too. Sure they were fluff, but extremely listenable fluff.

Well, I'm not a huge Wings fan so I wouldn't know the names of the 'other' memebers, meaning not Paul, Linda. The ones you mentioned seems weird though.
