Do put it up, @Funny Paper. I’m looking forward to listening to it.

I write a lot of songs, though most of the time it’s just random ideas scattered. I’ve tried to write in quite a few genres, mostly ballads, but I’ve written a couple of rock songs and I’m in the middle of writing Thick-Framed Glasses, which is classic rock’n’roll. I can only play piano, but I’m waiting to get a guitar soon. As I’ve said, usually I forget about a lot of songs I’m writing, but that’s usually because I don’t think it works out, but honestly, it’s mostly procrastination. Most of the songs are about the same sort of thing.

I’m planning to write one about my… situation, but I don’t know whether to write it as an epic hard-rock song or a slow piano waltz.

Well, I am taking a small rest after attempting 14 unsuccessful takes to record the backing track for ”If I’m Gone”. The only good thing that happened during these recordings were defining how the rhythm guitar would go and some bits for a lead guitar.

Well, I tried to upload my recorded song which I had saved onto my desktop, but the upload box here says “File extension error”.  I saved it first as a wma extension, then as an mp3.

Any suggestions?

You cant upload music to the forum as other people can download said music leading to the problem of potential file sharing copyrighted material; it was tested out and discovered using The End a while back and Joe subsequently disabled the function. You’ll have to go via another path to get it here.

Thanks meanmistermustard.

I put the song up on “Reverbnation” and they provide a link, so hopefully this will work.

The song is called “Buttercups” — I wrote the music and arrangement for guitar; I found the lyrics in a children’s poem by A.A. Milne (I tweaked a couple of words here and there).

P.S.: my guitar style there is using “Travis picking” — thumb alternating bass notes, other fingers picking arpeggios.

Well done, Funny Paper. I loved the music arrangement and your singing is likeable and calm. a-hard-days-night-ringo-15

Thanks OneBeatleManiac, Annadog, Mimi — I still think my voice could be a lot better (and I have good days, and bad days — but often on a good day I’m not disposed or available to sit down and record songs, so it’s hard to coordinate…).

I may well put up more songs in the near future, and hopefully with better singing days.

I’ve written several songs in my head over the years, but due to my lack of musical education, I’ve only recently been able to figure out some of the chord progressions as well as other features like the bass lines and strumming patterns. But I think I’ve got everything figured out for at least one song. The problem is that I can’t sing and I can only play guitar (and a bit of keyboard). But I may have something ready in the near future that at least somewhat resembles the song as I hear it in my head.

I’ve recently written a little guitar piece that I’m quite proud of, and I want to have your feedback. What is the best way to post a recording on the forum?

We were just trying to write songs about prostitutes and lesbians

If anyone can suggest other ways to upload songs to the forum i’ll add them to the relevant how to guide. The more the merrier. Thank you.

Well, this is it. I’ve started writing my mega-ballad, Elizabeth, the story of a young man trying to pull through an unrequited love whilst hoping for a bright future for the both of them.

I’ve only written a couple of out-of-order verses. At the moment it sounds like Working Class Hero , but I’m still only on the bare bones of it. Once it’s written, I get a semi-good means of recording audio, I learn to play guitar (which won’t be too hard for me – it’s just the time taken for practicing which gets me), both acoustic and electric (my uncle’s trying to find me a guitar but I don’t know whether it’ll be the former or the latter) for the rhythm and the lead, respectively, I can be able to upload it. Don’t be surprised if you don’t hear the finished thing for a long time; I’m making it quite a long song (there’ll be a cut-down version, too) and I need all the things mentioned above – don’t forget the fact that I’m making this the big one, so I’ll probably upload a few more beforehand. Nonetheless, before all of the above is done, I’ll probably upload a demo of the song.

@meanmistermustard There are other video sites like Vimeo you can upload to, although YouTube is probably better if you’re gonna make a video. For just audio soundcloud is one many have been using on here, and if you have lots of stuff to put up, maybe Bandcamp.

Hope that helps!

It’s Magic

Thanks for sharing your music Funny Paper. Keep on pushing and making the magic. I like what you’ve done so far. It’s great to hear new songs. I love the process of making music, always have as it’s magic. Here are a few I wrote (I’m not the singer):

Second Turn Around

We work alone for the most part in our basement studio. We have fellow musicians who are local come and sit in occasionally. Making music stirs my soul. If you like anything you hear please do let me know.
