OfflineWow!!
That was AWESOME!! I had heard this song before with Mariah Carey and U2, but no, this can't compare. It's awesome thanks for sharing Joe!
BTW Darlene Love is being inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2011. I like her a lot in one of my favorite movies is Lethal Weapon, now I'm going to check her albums!!
Ok to be back in topic, do you recommend that A Christmas gift for you from Philies record? It's considered one of the best ever.

I was just listening to that record now, it's a classic. The failure of the CD to chart in the US reportedly drove Phil Spector to a breakdown.
I like bits of it, but the Darlene Love song is a clear highlight. It's quite cheesy and kitsch, but then that's Christmas all over, isn't it?
Not sure if anyone's mentioned this, but the album was reissued by Apple Records in 1972 as Phil Spector's Christmas Album.
It was originally released on the day JFK died, and didn't do all that well.

OfflineIt would have also been released hours before JFK was killed. Off topic, but I always found the theory that the Beatles did so well in America was because America needed something to feel happy again after JFK's death (and the Beatles were there at the right time) an interesting one.

Boy people liked releasing things on the day JFK died. Wasn't WTB also released that day?
When I read this
I was like "I remember something that was also released on that day"
and then I remembered! It's not a release but Kubrick's Dr. Strangelove first screening was scheduled on Nov 22nd 1963. Because of this, the premiere was rescheduled to January 1964 and some changes were done to the movie.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D…..assination

Hands down, my all-time favourite Christmas song. Turn up the volume, press play. All kinds of wonderful.

OfflineOooo John vs. Paulie in Christmas songs. That's a hard one but I think I like John's better.
Speaking of celebrity death match that reminds me of that clay show back in the early 2000's where celebrities would wrestle to the death. Did any of the rest of you see that show? I remember one day I was watching a rerun of one and it was a special Beatles match. And George used his Hindu powers!
Edit: It was called Celebrity Deathmatch and I found the episode on youtube: this one has better quality than the first one that I saw but it has spanish subtitles (at least i think they're spanish possibly Portagul) It's quite funny but it does poke fun at them the whole time. And for the hosts, the one on the left is Johnny Gomez and the one on the right is Nick Diamond.

OfflinePaul, I love you. You know it. But hands down John.
And when I wrote that of Deathmatch that show was in my mind. I didn't know there was a Beatle episode. It's in Spanish. Poor Ringo and George
Thanks for sharing!!

OfflineI'm solidly for Happy Christmas (War is Over).
It's funny, every year in the Pop Candy blog of USA Today, someone always brings up the Worst Ever Christmas Songs, and Paul's is always on there somewhere. I'm not a real fan of the song, but the bashing always gets dragged out once a year, like Christmas stockings. I don't think it's *that* bad.

I'm glad this came up – the song really isn't that good. I always think, "Paulie, Paulie, Paulie – tell me you couldn't have come up with something much better".
To the fountain of perpetual mirth, Let it roll for all its worth.
