OfflineThis will sound really stupid but dont people view the last 3 tracks of abbey road as golden slumbers/carry that weight/the end and overlook her majesty. I know theyre not but they do come as a threesome.
If only the beatles had finished with The End, life would be so much easier.

I love the song Pumped Up Kicks. Their other song Helena Beat is really good too. I should listen to their whole album.
I've been getting into the Arctic Monkeys. This band kicks ass I swear.
Oh yes they do. Love them. Check out this song, by the Arctic Monkeys' lead singer Alex Turner and Miles Kane. wicked. plus they kinda look like Beatles here.
Foster The People is good too.
I love this song. My friend showed it to me. I actually just found out that Alex Turner was in the Last Shadow Puppets last night. I've known about LSP longer than I've known about AM. My world got a little brighter at that moment.

OfflineYeah! They don't have much material but it's really good stuff! I like the live version of this song way better than the album version. I really do like Alex's voice too. and the guitar that he's playing… the Gretsch like the one George played sometimes… well I just really like the tone of it. I want one.

Well, if he is saying Abbey Road has a better final 3 tracks, the final 3 of AR is Carry That Weight (Meh), The End (Love it) and Her Majesty (again, meh). So I still believe Sigh No More has a better final 3.
Her Majesty is a hidden track, so doesn't count.

I actually agree with you Walrus as it was originally absent from the tracklisting but its not anymore as it is listed on the cd. For me the end of Abbey Road is The End, you just get a nice ribbon/cherry put on the top.
If life was simple and perfect the beatles cannon would have finished with The End, tho Johns 'i hope we passed the audition' comment is still a great way to end (i ignore Free as A Bird and Real Love and am glad they didnt reach #1 and mess up 1).

OfflineIt's more about the lyrics for me with their music. I'm the type of person that normally looks more at lyrics than rhythms or instrumentation or things like that. I like stuff with meaning and I don't think I've found a Mumford and Sons song yet that doesn't have lyrics that blow my mind. Especially songs like Awake My Soul and The Cave which relate to me pretty personally. It's just that their lyrics are able to make you connect and feel something with the music and I always admire that in an artist. One reason I like The Beatles is because some of their songs have such amazing meaningful lyrics. Same thing with a lot of new artists coming out of the woodwork right now, it's because they know how to write lyrics that make you feel like your heart is breaking or is being lifted to glorious heights.

OfflineWell I know nobody knows them here, but i don't care haha
…They're an argentinian group called "Soda Stereo" I also love so much the singer
they are like my number one things that i listen to everyday (the beatles too of course!) …. Listen to them! Even if you don't speak spanish! it doesn't matter, I think they're one of the best bands in the history of latin american rock, pure 80's and 90's! …But I also like bands that you all know: U2, coldplay, genesis, and Peter Gabriel! I love everything 80's, almost everything
Please! Tell me what you think! and I hope you won't laugh haha.

OfflineThe Clash.!
their music is brilliant and I like their lyrics. my favourites are "Train In Vain", "Stand By Me", "I'm so bored with the USA" (sorry, Americans), "Tommy Gun", "White Riot" and "Complete Control".
and Oasis are very good, too. my favourites are "Don't Look Back In Anger", "Champagne Supernova" and "Stand By Me".
haha just noticed that Clash and Oasis both have a song titled "Stand By Me".
oh and Queen.! they're legends, too.
I feel kinda lame for posting at this topic, 'cause the last post is from 16th October.

OfflineAh, The Clash. I actually am listening to them now, Police on My Back. The Guns of Brixton is eery. I hate (and love at the same time) how the lyrics both predate the 80's issues, and yet still resonate in the 2011 riots. But London Calling is their best song, IMO.

Oh god, I'll never be able to listen to the Doors unbiasedly. My mom's friend Roseanne forever ruined them for me. She has the most unholy obsession with Jim Morrison, it honestly creeps me out. She's a fanatic in the most crazed of ways. She even went to his childhood home with a Ouijia (is that how you spell it?) board and attempted to "commune with his spirit."
His spirit was apparently not interested in communing. She didn't get a response. It's kind of hard for me to hear them without thinking of Roseanne. I quite like "People Are Strange" though.
Oh, and I saw the earlier part in the thread about "Her Majesty." I've always been a little bothered about them tacking that on instead of ending with "The End." That would have been very dramatic. I think most other bands would have gone for the whole epic-finale showstopper type thing, but they chose to add this little whimsical note to the finish. It could be seen as a bit of a buzz kill, but I think taking risks like that is part of what made the Beatles the Beatles. Plus, it lightens up the end of the album. If they'd closed with "The End" it might have come off as a little too heavy, self-righteous almost. Just my opinion.

OfflineI think Her Majesty would work better if it remained a hidden/unlisted track, as it originally was. As then The End would still be the last track, or cause discussion.
Right the way thru the beatles its never been simple, starting with Please Please Me and the debate of whether it was a true #1 in the UK or not. (It was but its not on 1 even tho it did reach number 1 but it didnt.) And i suppose you also have the whole Pete Best thing and a whole host of others.
What is great tho is that if you have The End playing load and someone comes in the room to tell you to turn it , see them jump when the first chord of Her Majesty comes crashing down.
I really should get into more bands, to get back on topic, but in truth i cant be bothered at the moment.

There's a John Lennon cover of "Stand by Me" as well. Interesting how it's all connected…
Whats the odds on Oasis having a song called Stand By Me because of John's cover?

- but that aside, their songs all sound the same apart from the lyrics to me.
