Ahhh I knew the Wild Tchoupitoulas were too obvious of a choice for W!!!! 
But what bands or artists are you in to? I suppose it takes a list like this to make me realize how much I like jazz.
And Walrus that video doesn't show up on my ipod, so I'll just check a cd out from la biblioteca.

Nope. I listed my favorites from each letter.
I couldn't think of any artist/band for "N" that I liked well enough to list (Neil Young belongs in "Y"). Nash had a solo song or two that were OK but I liked his contributions to The Hollies and CSN better. I was never really that big on Nirvana either. I felt it best to leave it blank instead of just throwing something in there by default.

I'm into a lot of different styles, I suppose. My CD rack is filled with Classical, Heavy Metal, really old Blues, Punk, Southern Rock, a lot of Classic Rock, one or two Beatles albums, etc…
I don't have any Jazz artisits in my coffers because I haven't found an artist/group that I can't live without. However, I really enjoy listening to it on my Cable TV's music channels where they usually play the more popular songs of the genre. When I lived in Phoenix, one of my favorite radio stations was KYOT where they played a lot of "smooth jazz". It is very relaxing.

I bought this single – SFA's Hometown Unicorn – in my first week at uni, without having heard them but knowing they were a local band. It's from 1996 and is beautiful.
It blew me away. Listen to the harmonies, arrangement, melodies. Lovely! They were signed to Creation at the time, but everyone ignored them in favour of the massively inferior Oasis.
Ellie and I first bonded over SFA, going to all their concerts and devouring their records – she walked down the aisle at our wedding to the sound of Hello Sunshine. I interviewed Gruff Rhys (the singer – pronounced Griff) a few times too. They're stars here in Wales and well respected around the world, but most people see them as crazy Welsh wizards strung out on mushrooms (or other boring cliches). They've gone off the boil a bit lately but their earlier stuff is wonderful. So yes, I'm a bit of a fan!
I recommend the albums Radiator, Rings Around The World and the singles collection Songbook, plus the Welsh-language Mwng if you're feeling a bit braver. Gruff's solo stuff is very good too. Here's his most recent single – all his and SFA's back catalogue are full of these sorts of pop gems:

Thanks for the recommendation Joe! I'm going to get some of their stuff I like the first song you posted!
I have to say for me it's fantastic you share other bands we like besides obviously the Beatles. I'm catching up with my zero listening to new music in the 90s and some other years.
Edit : I have to say I just listened to Radiohead Kid-A thanks to the recommendation of a friend and it blew me away. I'm going to check out Radiator and Rings around the world.
(and I need to get a larger mp3 player)
BTW To Joe and anybody who's a Joy Divison fan… can you recommend me a good album to start with?

Mith, that's…. sad and yet inspirational. I think lots of us young people don't realise something. There still is good current music. But they won't be promoted like Beiber is. (I love how Beiber is considered a typo. I just love it.) So, I pipe up my favourite current band, Arcade Fire. Their most recent album is great, especially the title track. (The fact they're Montreal boys doesn't hurt, of course).

Mith – glad you liked SFA! I'm not really a Joy Division fan but Closer is generally held to be their best work. My favourite song of theirs is Transmission.

Whoops! I listed the wrong one, I meant Paulrus.
But I do like some of the bands you listed and I'm starting to get into jazz and old blues and the like.
So then Paulrus, we have very similar music taste.

The thing is SunKing I went through 2 very sad situations in my family in the 90s, and I didn't even care for checking out what was going in the music scene.
So I'm catching up. Oh Joe and BTW I got Radiator and Rings around the world and so far so great!!! . Hillarious they have a song named Chupacabras. 
And Arcade Fire SunKing, recommend me a good CD. I listened to My body is my cage.

I have many non-Beatles bands I like: Journey, Foreigner (yes, Foreigner), The Cars, U2, The Moody Blues, Queen, Genesis, The Carpenters, The Beach Boys, Bare Naked Ladies, Pearl Jam, Aerosmith, AC/DC, Johnny Cash and the Tennessee 2 (or 3, I can never remember which), Pink Floyd, Huey Lewis and the News, Madness, The Kinks, The Who, The Rolling Stones, Judas Priest, The Temptations, Blessid Union of Souls, Nirvana, the one band I can never remember the name to…oh yeah, The Spin Doctors, Collective Soul, Roxette (kudos to a previous poster for reminding me of them)…and since Swedish bands have been brought up, ABBA…YES ABBA. The Supremes, The Bangles, The Eagles, Crosby, Stills, Nash and (sometimes) Young, The Hollies, Giant, Van Halen, Poison, um, Motley Crue, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles…..and many more. But, if I have to pick a favorite then it would have to be….Led Zeppelin.

Fortunately our library system has a good number of Super Furry Animals albums so Radiator and the Singles Collection are on their way, thanks guys.
Zig, to me jazz just takes many listens to really get into. One of the artists I named, Nicola Conte, has an awesome cd called Jet Sounds that took me at least a month to get into because it's such an odd cd, but there was something about it so I kept coming back. I got into jazz by listening to ridiculously catchy jazz-pop songs, I have no idea how the band Koop hasn't had a few smash hits around the world because of how catchy a few of their songs are while still remaining jazz songs. I think jazz is the most progressive genre in the current music scene with really inventive jazz/electronic hybrid artists (technically called nu-jazz) making really great and different sounding records.
But certainly the old jazz standards are really fun to listen to, I've never heard a version of Besame Mucho (even the stoned Paul's Let it Be one), or Smile or Blue Skies that I didn't like. They give me that warm, fuzzy feeling inside that I feel like a lot of rock genres miss out on by trying to be too cool. Plus I love the sound of those old recordings. I would recommend anyone that considers Dr. Winston O'Boogie one of the greatest singers of all time to check out Billie Holiday because they have a lot of similarities…mostly pain and feeling. But she'll make you smile, just like John.

Oh, I forgot to say, on SFA's Rings Around the World there's a song called Receptacle For The Respectable which has Paul McCartney chewing vegetables on it.
From Wikipedia:
Paul McCartney is credited as providing "celery and carrot" on the track "Receptacle for the Respectable". McCartney performed a similar role over thirty years earlier, chewing celery to form the percussion track of The Beach Boys song "Vegetables" from the album Smiley Smile. The Super Furry Animals had met the ex-Beatle at the NME Awards when a drunk Ciaran persuaded him to let them remix some Beatles material, resulting in 2000's Liverpool Sound Collage album. The band asked him to "return the favour" and appear on Rings Around the World, recording his part over the phone. Huw Bunford has said of McCartney's contribution: "He took it with good nature. You kind of see how far you can go sometimes … we figured we already had a bass and singers so we really didn't need any more musicians. So we figured he could crunch vegetables".
McCartney's contribution is from about 2'07"-3'00 (he's chewing in time – it's easier to hear in the instrumental bit). The whole song is pretty bloody fantastic, though, so give it all a listen.
EDIT one of the b-sides from the RATW era was called Happiness Is A Worn Pun. There are lots of reasons to love the mighty SFA.

Oh, I forgot to post the Arcade Fire story. Okay, first off, my brother and I are not the same in types of music. That's just the fact of the matter. So we can occassionally war over the car stereo (me for the Classic rock station, him for the Alternative station). So, we were driving to Watertown (shopping down in New York State), and just around the border, this song comes on. Arcade Fire's The Suburbs. So (and in the backseat, such a disadvantage), I ask someone to crank it up, and then me and my brother started singing. I thought nothing of the fact until we were at the restaurant where we ate supper. It was just us at the table, and then my brother says to me, "By the way, I didn't know you knew that song." Now, the thing is, he sounded impressed. Which never happens. And by never, I mean NEVER. I don't know, Arcade Fire seems to be the music both of us can Come Together over. That's a good felling.
