I'm in love with the Tragically Hip right now. It's funny – they're known as such a hard rock band, but their best songs are all their ballads – like Wheat Kings
Hey me too! I wonder if they're as popular elsewhere as they are in Canada.
I've been loving Two Door Cinema Club and Radiohead lately.
And Dire Straits as well, my dad and I just got tickets to Bob Dylan and Mark Knopfler! I'm pretty excited, Knopfler is a virtuoso.

Just because it's Canadian doesn't mean it's good… Not everyone is Arcade Fire.
…or Hey Rosetta, or City And Colour, or Feist, or Sam Roberts, or Serena Ryder, or Arkells, or Neil Young, or Plants and Animals, or the Sheepdogs… I could go on. CanCon regulations are brilliant and useless for the same reason – alternative stations can just load up on the bands I list, but crappy stations are forced playing Bieber and Nickelback (who are truly crap).

OfflineVery true, the results of the regulations go both ways. Unfortunately, if you live where I do where the radio stationscountry, or top 40, you generally get the bad end of the deal. I stick to my CDs as of late.
I've been getting into the Sheepdogs and Arkells a bit, what are Plants and Animals like?

OfflinePlants and Animals are hard to describe, and frankly, a video tells a million words: Lightshow.
Now, I still consider the Can Con regulations good, because it means that good radio stations are legally forced to play good music (Of which there is considerable Canadian selection). I still think they`re worth it.

OfflineIf I may add something to the Canadian-music discussion, I'd like to name-drop Sloan.
Sloan came out of Halifax during the early-90s Grunge explosion, but they quickly re-defined themselves as Beatlesque power-pop craftsmen.
All four members write, sing and play multiple instruments. One of the truest democracies in music, almost every album runs 12 songs with each member contributing 3 apiece.
If you like stuff like Big Star, Cheap Trick or Matthew Sweet, you could do worse.

Where in the Great White North? I`m an Ottawa boy, born and bred.
I actually saw Sloan do a free show on Canada Day (2011). They sounded okay, but The Other man is such a good song. I may take a listen.

OfflineOriginally from Halifax, now in Kitchener.
I've also done time on Vancouver Island and wayyyy up North.
I'm actually friends with Jay Ferguson from Sloan. They've been releasing their own bootlegs on vinyl recently, and I supplied the tapes for the last one which was a 1999 Australia show.
'Twice Removed' is recognized as one of the finest Canadian albums ever made. If you go to Youtube, you can hear it in its entirety.

OfflineI don't think I could make it through the whole alphabet -- but I can find some of my favourite bands in the first six letters:
America
Badfinger
Chicago (awesome band -- and so often overlooked these days)
Dire Straits
Eagles
Fogarty, John (aka Creedence Clearwater Revival)
Then throw in Moody Blues, Matchbox 20 and Roy Orbison and we're good

Agreed it's kickass, but I wouldn't call them a one hit wonder. They had a few other fairly successful singles.
Definitely not one hit wonder, but I guess that song was the only one that was so popular. Whole "Urban Hymns" album was very popular, and it is a very good album.
