There are just some incredible songs on that album, Working Class Hero, Look at Me, God, Mother, I Found Out. Isolation might be my favorite song of all time. I think I like songs better than albums though, I've always felt that some songs get overrated just because they are on a great album, like a few off of Pepper. Yeah, it was a tough choice between Tommy and Quadrophenia.  And I like the movie.  It makes the album a little more understandable, in my opinion.

I think if I had to get the Tommy soundtrack, I'd hunt down the one that came after the movie, and not before (which is what you posted). Journal for Plague Lovers was released last year after he was declared "presumed dead", and contains only lyrics he wrote, so is similarly... unstable.

 

Their 2010 album, Postcards from a Young Man, is their most commercial, because they wanted one last attempt at breaking into the mainstream. Like most of their catalogue, it has the odd good track and a load of filler.
