Apparently people, on average, have 150 Facebook friends.
Two Words: REALLY SAD
My mother has 1011 friends, and she knows 1010 of them. (There's one person she added because she had the same name as someone else she knows, and she didn't have the heart to unfriend her.)
I have 235 friends. There are about 15 I don't know, and they're all Fab Forum people.
You're wrong about the "average person not knowing 150 people" bit, by the way. We know a lot more people than we realize. It's just that we can't name them off the top of our heads. For example, most classes in the area I'm from have about 30 students in them. (The classes at my old school were theoretically capped at 25, but there were almost invariably 3 more students in each class.) In this average class, there are only a couple of them who don't have Facebook accounts, and there are a couple more I wouldn't add because they're rude to me. I have eight classes at school. Four of them are "repeat" classes with the same group of people. Plus, there are about 30 other kids who I don't share any classes with, but I know from being in shows with.
Add that to people in my neighborhood and my family members, and I end up having a lot more Facebook friends than I realized.

OfflineWell, it's surprising how many people the average person who doesn't live in his mother's basement (it's a cliché, I know) knows.

I don't see how 150 friends is "really sad"… When you factor in friends from primary school, friends from high school and the odd Beatles Bibler here and there, you're going to get more than 150, chances are. My high school has about 1200 kids, and my primary had about 350.
Most people I know have at the very least 200 friends on Facebook. Some of my friends on Facebook aren't really close friends, but they're not "random adds" or anything.
On the other hand, my brother has about 650 friends, most of which appear to be 13 year old sluts, so that's slightly ridiculous. I always get annoyed when I see on my news feed "hey thanks for the add xx do i no u?" "nah random add soz hope u don't mind lol xx"
Dude, seriously?
And that's my grumble for the day.

OfflineThe best story I have with one of my friends on Facebook but not in real life is this: I just one day searched my name, the way I go by, and messaged everyone who shared my exact name asking if we could be friends because I just wanted to see how another StarWisher lived, and one actually did. It's kind of funny, because she's from the same general area I am.

I'm debating friending people on here on my Facebook account, but I kinda like to keep it to people I know in real life. There are *some* exceptions, but it just works like that for me.
I'm still on the fence.
I’m the same way about only adding people I know in real life, but I decided to add my fellow BBFFers because I feel like you’re all my friends anyway.
(Awwww!)
Speaking of, there are two friend requests sitting in my box … Somebody claim them because I don’t recognize the names.

Don't forget family members, and people you meet at camp or other activities, or coworkers when you get a job, or…
There are also some profiles that are more like "like" pages." (For example: Someone from my high school made a Facebook page for it. They put "Quarry Bank*" in the "first name" spot and "High" in the "last name" spot. It's really funny when people's accounts get spammed and they send messages like "Hey Quarry Bank, when I got this free iPad offer I thought of you.")
*not my school's real name

This. I'm a fence-sitter too. considering making a second account for this kind of purpose, but I don't know if I could keep up.

I quit facebook. It's a good idea but, for me, the original purpose to keep in contact with family and friends went by the wayside. I got tired of game requests, drama, misinformation, attitude, changes and the privacy problem.
Give me a good ol' fashion forum any day!!
