The BBC Have announced that part 3 of "Galaxy Four" (first broadcast in 1965) and part 2 of "The Underwater Menace" (first broadcast in 1967) and both had been thought to be lost, have been returned to the BBC.

The episodes are thought to have originated from the ABC Channel in Australia.

Christmas has come early for Doctor Who fans. [Smile]

Gives hope for the beatles juke box jury and top of the pops performances to one day be found (actually wasnt some mute juke box jury footage discovered and they were going to sync it with the circulating audio. Whatever happened to that?)

The good thing re Doctor Who is that the beeb have a tendency to release the episodes on dvd so these wont be locked in a cupboard never to be seen.

If the Juke Box Jury footage was found, this may need resoration to make it good enough quality to release on DVD.

The Doctor Who stories are getting released on DVD and all the footage is repaired (if damaged), clean up and where appropriate re-coloured (if the original colour film has been lost and a black and white copy of the episode exists) but this is done by BBC staff in their spare time and they're not paid to do it either – they just do it for the love of the programme and to make the Doctor Who stuff look the best it can.

It would be unusual for the bbc to release beatles footage on dvd eg The Beatles On Record screened in 2009. The best fans can hope for is it being shown on tv at some point on leaked on to the net.

A quick look around seems to suggest  some silent footage was in circulation and the bbc unearthed audio. But that was in 2001 and the audio from Juke Box Jury was circulating in 1999. So maybe it was longer or in better quality, or someone bought the bootleg.

I have no idea.

Yeah, sorry – I meant that if the footage was cleaned up to a broadcastable quality the BBC may broadcast it again and not release it on DVD.  Apologies.

Interestingly a believed wiped David Bowie performance of Jean Genie on Top Of The Pops in 1973 has also been discovered and will be aired in early 2012. If nothing more it offers hope that someday some bbc beatles footage will turn up somewhere.
