OfflineHi! I'm trying out for my school's Madrigals choir on the first, and I'd like to know if you guys have any suggestions!
Some guidelines:
1. I'd like to sing a Beatles song, but non-Beatles would be OK, too.
2. This is a solo audition. I can bring my own accompaniment, though.
3. The audition is to show how well we can sing, not how "poppy" we can sing. Please don't pick songs that involve lots of scooping!
4. I'm an alto.
5. I'm not sure how much time each audition takes. It probably wouldn't be best for me to sing "Hey Jude."

OfflineI think "For No One" and "Golden Slumbers" would work best. "I've Just Seen a Face" is fun to sing, but there's a lot of "scooping" in it. And I don't particularly care for "Michelle."
BTW, scooping is when you start on one note and then slide to your "real" note. An example would the "me" in "Falling, yes I am falling, and she keeps calling me back again."

OfflineI would actually suggest not doing anything that you would hear on the radio. Those type of songs do not and I really mean do not help your voice sound any better. Really they just make you sound worse because your mouth goes from east to west instead of north to south like it should. So stay away from pop pieces at all costs. Go for something more traditional like American Lullaby. It's a perfect song for an alto and it sounds great too.
