For the obscene amount of money that Ringo’s album is going for, I better be getting Ringo free as part of the package.

That’s a nice boxset, the Elton John one! I know people who don’t like any EJ beyond Madman Across The Water, that’s how hardcore they are, the rest is commercialized rubbish according to them

That leaves a pretty small number of albums to get excited about 😉

I was a big fan in the “early days” as well, and saw him in concert 3 times back then. I must admit to feeling somewhat the same; but mostly after Yellow Brick Road.

I saw him once in Brisbane with the old band and they did all the great stuff, he came out in an electric top hat and just wailed on the piano for 2 hours. So very glad I was able to see the great Dee Murray play, only bassplayers speak in hushed tones about him. I stop at Blue Moves myself, it does start to get patchy after GYBR though.

I'm like Necko only I'm a bassist ukulele guitar synthesizer kazoo penguin and also everyone. Or is everyone me? Now I'm a confused bassist ukulele guitar synthesizer kazoo penguin everyone who is definitely not @Joe.  This has been true for 2016 & 2017 Sig-Badge.png but I may have to get more specific in the future.

The classical binge continues.

Strauss’ Alpine Symphony (and assorted other works on 2 CDs) conducted by von Karajan

Dvorak Symphonies 3 & 6-8 conducted by Myung-whun Chung. These were a steal at $10 for 2 CDs.

And yes, I know I gave away 250 classical CDs just a few weeks ago. I’m just replacing a few of my favourites I accidentally gave away when I didn’t have the time to check the shelves thoroughly – and getting some better performances at the same time.

AND – another 86 CDs ordered from Amazon France – if I got the translations right – 😉

Any guesses?

A 56 CD box this time, to go with the purchase above (which was the Complete Beethoven Edition).

100 Greatest Symphonies from DG – around 70 of which I don’t currently have – which pretty much gets my collection back to where it was before the move and in a much more compact form than before. In fact I could get by with a dozen compact boxes now (taking up less than two shelves) rather than the dozen shelves I used to have filled.

The boxes are mostly from DG and Brilliant Classics and work out VERY inexpensively per CD, with some great artists and performances. No, actually some stunning ones in there.

I’ve been exploring Phil Collins, Depeche Mode and Frank Sinatra, which sounds funny when you list them all together.

Well, it’s not quite the YO that ET has been suggesting, but considering my previous classical dabblings it might as well be.

A 49CD Shostakovich boxed set is on its way from the UK.

Yes, to go with the other 160 CDs currently in transit, not to mention the 110 which arrived last week.

I hope HKL can put up with some of this when she returns down-under.

Checked out the shops today but they only had the DVD version; I will hold out for the bluray. I picked this up:

I have a feeling that HongKongLady will find you buried under a toppled pile of classical CDs one day.

Classical boxes perhaps 😉

This particularly fine example of the bargains currently available in the classical field arrived yesterday:

It’s 65 CDs of amazing sounding music conducted by some of the best in a wonderful looking box with a 200 page collector’s book inside. It has all 9 of the Beethoven symphonies amongst many other fine performances.

In the recent Australia Day sale it cost me $AU90 delivered (about 45 pounds or $US65). That’s the equivalent of around 3-4 new CDs at retail here.

Following on from my mono Beatles (in the US Albums set) and the mono Dylan box:

And I paid around half that price from Amazon Germany.

Lots of wonderful music and great performers from the earliest days of LPs.
