Being so close to Glasgow ive been fortunate in there has always been vinyl shops to go to so had no need to go to ebay, but i know people shop there [ebay] regularly and its far safer to do so than ever before.
I would agree with you kedame that it will generally be collectors or used music shops who are the sellers. You just have to be careful, same as when looking for bootlegs online.

The White Album my sister got me has a very generous return policy...no questions asked. My Ram album was all scratched, but it wasn't that expensive. Generally, people who sell records on ebay are either collectors, or they have a used music business. Every lp I've ever bought on ebay has been what I expected, sometimes better, except for Ram. Ebay is a godsend to me. I love it!

And, just for the record, my counterfeit stereo box came from amazon. Most people on ebay use a very nice grading system for all their lps, so they're usually trustworthy.

I wouldnt ever buy anything expensive on ebay.

Had a quick look on Google and some of the sellers say no returns. Does that mean that if you are not happy with what you've bought you cant return it? What happens if you by an lp and its all scratched?

There are a good few on ebay, but they are insanely expensive, especially if they're in good condition.

A quick google search and look on a few sites suggest that the sound quality of picture discs are generally inferior to the normal albums, tho no reasons why are given. I suppose the material used for the picture hinders the sound being clean.

I have the Sgt. Pepper's picture disc, too, but I don't think the sound quality will be as good because of the different type of wax used. I haven't tried it yet because it's in shrink wrap. My little sister got me an Apple version of the White Album. The LPs are in NM, and the cover was Excellent. It was $50, but I don't think the inserts are in it. I really wanted those, too, but I guess it's the music that is the most important. A NM Apple edition ain't half bad for $50.

A vinyl record will warp if you accidentally leave it near something warm (radiator), and of course you have to make sure the needle doesn't skim across the record or land on it hard.

The record tends to collect dust.

There was a whole industry built around keeping records in good shape, including cloths, cleaning fluids, etc...

It came with the inserts aswell so it was worth it. 'Back In The USSR' is a great track to listen to. The Abbey Road Medley is another great thing to listen to. Also, you HAVE TO listen to 'A Day In The Life' on vinyl. I have a copy of Sgt. Pepper's on vinyl and a picture disc although I haven't played it. Any ideas if it sounds good on a picture disc? I don't want to decrease the value of it. If ...

The only typical difference between versions of The White Album is where "Cry, Baby, Cry" ends and "Revolution 9" begins (the conversation at the beginning of "9" was occasionally placed at the end of "Cry" because there was no song break between the two). If you're really THAT concerned about it, I advise a chill pill. Incidentally, many places still have new pressings of the White Album as well as Abbey Road, which may not be as sentimentally appealing, but they do serve your purpose, and give you a mint copy of the album. I know, in particular, Best Buy ...

I dont think there is any difference between the capitol and apple white albums (unless your going down the mono v stereo route – mono in the us was via import for a long time). As for original pressings again there is no real difference bar price (tho if you can get a low numbered original at bargain price then buy it) and no noticeable difference in sound, if any. The vinyl remasters havent yet been issued.

Revolver or A Hard Days Night would be great places to go. Hearing the '1, 2, 3, 4' intro or the chord of AHDN is ...

Ok...so I want vinyls for Christmas. Beatles vinyls are often expensive, so I need to just pick a few. Which ones should I get? I want the White Album and already have Magical Mystery Tour and a Sgt. Pepper's picture disc (though I haven't played it. I hear they suck.). So which version of the White Album should I get? Capitol, Apple? Should I spend the extra money for original pressings, or would the 1978 version serve me just as well? I NEED TO KNOW THESE THINGS, PEOPLE! Help!
